There's No White People In Norway
I'm in Norway, quite randomly, which should be the whitest place on the planet, but it isn't, unless you're entirely uninquisitive. If you look around, there's no white people in Norway. Just Norwegians. They have a culture which isn't defined in relation to some other, nor are they aligned with other people just to other others more. You can see the possibilities for a dignified retreat from colonialism here, if the unsettler colonies weren't collapsing into a white hole.
You can see the folding of identities in Norway like the folded rocks that make up this exceedingly weird subcontinent. There's the relatively new idea of Norwegian, the older concept of Scandinavian, the mostly abandoned attempt at Christianization, and a return to pagan ‘humanitarianism’. Of this folded but yet unfolding rock, white is but the thinnest and grimmest layer, visible only in relation to othered people, in white supremacist organizations like NATO or racist cartels like the EU, which have little to do with people's personal identities or day-to-day existence.
Despite being a smaller country than Sri Lanka and right next to the UK—Norways preserves their language and culture and do not assimilate. You can communicate in English and interface in the usual, imperial, ways, but the default state is Norwegian. That's the default language, the default culture, not some same whiteness but their own particular shade. What I'm trying to say is that these people are different, and they're different in their own way.
It all shows how meaningless whiteness is. It's the Starbuck and McDonald's on the edge of the highway that you wish would go away. If you go anywhere that has a culture and a history besides colonialism you can see how thin and grim the recent folding of identities into whiteness is. The warring tribes of Europe could barely identify with the next tribe over and still don't, really. This unified white identity only became relevant relative to us, people that they hated more than each other. Whiteness is a purely hateful identity, it has no food, no culture, no positive meaning besides not being othered people. There's no there there, it's just a process of constant, carnivorous expansionism, including of the identity itself. I say this because people like me easily become white, the color comes out in just a few washes.
As a triaspora (I migrated to the West as a child and returned) I can see diaspora children on social media (and in my family) and see how they become something else, their culture eventually a cookbook and some whispered words at nighttime. I'm not saying in this generation—many in the diaspora hold onto their language and culture better than I have—but in one generation the kids sound indistinguishable, in a generation they look distinctly latte, and in two the color can wash completely out, especially as people marry people they're not supposed to, as every Disney film commands you to do. The color comes out in one or two washes. And then what? You're whitewashed into the same conundrum as the other colonizers. As I've said, whiteness is a ladder, and the only rule is kicking down. Ask any recent immigrant for their opinion on immigration. You'd be surprised at the incoherent vitriol. That's the whiteness talking.
Of course, most nominal Americans can't go back to anything, the whole place is built on an Indian graveyard and has no soul of its own. The only place whiteness has a shallow meaning is in the settler colonies, populated as they are by deeply unsettled people. It's important to understand that colonization was a deeply traumatic event for the colonizer as well. I'd say they can go to hell, but they're already there in many ways. Europeans left their homes and cultures and native land to plunder other lands and cultures and natives in the name of whiteness. As fun as the oppression was, it's still depressing losing who you were, to be assimilated into interchangeable consumers forever.
One of the commenters here says white people have no soul and you can see it, or the lack thereof. If all you identify is as white, that's really quite sad, isn't it? It means you've been completely stripped of wherever you came from to end up wherever you are, which is just a crime scene and abomination, unless you want to own it and just be awful. I often tell people to just identify as something else, but what if you're irretrievably lost and have nothing else to call home? I have the smallest violin to play for this problem, but I can still hear the song. But bro, I bet Mesopotamians or Assyrians were real attached to whatever identities, and they seem to have moved on. The White Empire is going down and whiteness with it. I'd say I'm sorry but I'm not.
I was talking to Benji et al on the Resistance Is Fertile podcast and they came up with the idea of a white hole at the center of White Empire, that sucking sound pulling colonizers in still, to this day. What they call ‘immigrants’ today is just the latest colonizers of stolen land. International students and work visas are just the new indentured servants, and the people that cross as most people did—without papers—are just the new slaves, along with the old slaves, reincarcerated. At the heart of whiteness, there is nothing but an algorithm of endless growth (on a finite planet), and it has to keep sucking people in, even if they don't look especially white anymore. Capitalism is a shark and it must keep moving or die, though I think we have a dead shark on our hands, as Woody Allen said.
The saving grace of places like Norway is that they offer another identity to fall back on. I have cousins here and their kids are becoming Norwegian, but that doesn't imply white supremacism. Practically it does as long as Norway is part of NATO and the EU, but on a day-to-day level, they're Norwegian, which is more to do with long vacations. At a deep level, the people of these countries do not want any part of the unending World Wars that drive immigration (re: slaves) into them, nor any part of the larger white identity centered around crass Americans. They've got the spoils of colonialism sure, but now they just want to chill at home.
Unfortunately there is no reverse Ponzi, and colonialism is just a planetary Ponzi scheme run amok. People across Europe are discovering that their opinions have nothing to do with anything. They are just used by elites to fence against each other in farcical elections, the facade of which is now increasingly abandoned. They have democracies as much as a city controls its garbage collection, they're now openly ruled by the White Empire out of America, and have little say unless they start openly resisting them.
The damning state of places like Norway and all of Europe is that they can regulate their speed limits, but still be driven off a cliff by American morons and European bureaucrats. I refer to the jumped up steel and coal cartel called the EU and the American tribute army called NATO, which run their own policy, which is just white supremacy.
Now these elites try to cynically blame all of Europe's problems on the others down south, appealing to that White identity yet again. Anti-immigrant sentiment is cynically exploited by White elites to keep the slave class enslaved, while only increasing their numbers (as the Brits did after Brexit). It's a very cynical divide and conquer on a planetary scale, driven by divide and conquer of nations everywhere. They spread division everywhere so their profits multiply, that's the whole game. I say this not to excuse, but we all know the opinions of people in Western democracies are irrelevant unless they're being abused. Anti-immigration sentiment is really just people trying to mind their business and being exploited by business interests that like immigration (ie indentured servitude and slaves) but want to pay less for them by keeping them hated. As I've said, White Empire is really ruled by Corporate AI (and has been since the 1600s) which really does not see color, but will happily use it in its marketing campaigns.
But I digress, and my children are getting dressed. Forgive my stream of consciousness, but the family is looking for me and I have other jobs these days. I'm the driver, I'm the arriver, and I have many places to go before I sleep. So I'll leave you with this, a stream of consciousness on Norway, a place I didn't think I'd like but can't hate. There's no white people here at all. They're doing their own thing.
