A women’s protest in 2012, after the first coup.
I’m not there, but there’s a protest at the Maldivian Embassy in Colombo, like, now. This is because the Maldivian Supreme Court has kicked out lawyers for the Elections Commission and winners of the first run-off, and unilaterally delayed the second round of voting there. Which is quite arbitrary and unconstitutional. The guy who staged the coup got 5% and the gut who got couped (Anni) got 45%. Now it seems like they’re trying a judicial coup by simply stopping people from voting again.
The first round elections were widely reported as free and fair and basically every international observer is objecting to this arrest of the voting. They got away with a coup there once. I really hope they don’t do it again.
