The body of Khuram, via the Sunday Times.
A year and a half since British citizen Khuram Shaikh was killed and his girlfriend gang-raped by a southern politician and his goons, the suspects are out on bail and the case is going nowhere. It’s a travesty and British MPs really should bring this up at the upcoming Commonwealth meeting. The idea that you can kill and rape tourists and get away with it cause you’re politically connected is of deep shame to the whole country.
All that’s happened is that the main suspect is walking free on bail, he’s been reinstated to the party (the SLFP) and there is no justice for the dead or the assaulted. Some people are so far above the law that rape and murder is OK. As long as crimes like this go unpunished, we really are not much better than a country run by the mafia. There is vague order, but certain people are a law unto themselves.
