Jayalithaa. You are embarrassing your country.
I’m still shocked at how Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister kicked out some Sri Lankan school-kids, precipitating mob attacks on average Sri Lankans. I mean, really? Have you no hospitality or shame? The kids they kicked out are from Royal College and an international school in Ratnapura and they were just playing a friendly football match. Jayalithaa looks like a positive brute, and her douchiness has spurred mobbery. Now mobs are attacking Sri Lankan pilgrims, to the point that even LTTE-idealizing Karunanidhi is like ‘dial it down‘.
Seriously, what is wrong with these politicians. I have been to India and Tamil Nadu many times and the people have always been cool, within human limitations. I mean, you get a certain percentage of rude everywhere, but I haven’t noticed it any higher in the TN, except a bit in a very south. Still, for the Chief Minister of a state to involve school children in political hostility is just beyond the pale.
The last time I remember a school sports team being involved in conflict was when an LTTE suicide bomber killed eight members of the DS Senanayake baseball team at Fort Railway station. And I understand that young people in the north died also. But the war is over now, and for Jayalithaa to use kids as a proxy in taking political potshot is just a national shame to India. As the Hindu editorial page said:
Nothing could be more myopic than Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s outburst against the visit of a Sri Lankan school football team to Tamil Nadu and her decision to suspend an official for allowing a match to be played in the government-owned Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai. Her action has harmed the image of the State and tarnished the reputation of India as an open and tolerant society. (The Hindu)
How intolerant and simply rude. Whatever peoples political differences, we have always got together at the Olympics or to eat or to generally be human. This is human decency, independent of politics, and by attacking children playing sports, Jayalithaa has displayed her lack thereof. It is to India’s shame and they need to set it right.
Nice post.
Whenever I think that Sri Lanka has the worst politicians in the world, I think of Tamil Nadu and some faith is restored.
Looks like the LTTE strategy has moved to emphasis on India. They never understood a post 9/11 world, finally they do. I wouldn’t really screw
around with India despite Chinese support. Otherwise by now the Chinese would have got the Trinco harbour. Good sense from SLgov.
Still worry about our PR abroad though and if we really have anyone in SL, gov or opposition to strategize post war conflict.
Interesting to see the outcome. It’s a good time for the LTTE as the Americans are having elections and Europe, well Europe god knows what
will happen. UK for sure are in double dip recession. As the west looks away, the east shall play.
This is one time all Sri Lankans must unite, or we may become another Palestine. Pity.
Chandrika Kumarantunge had a great bunch of people behind her internationally. Especially in UK. The SLgov should make her High
Commissioner to the United Kingdom, or for that matter offer her foreign minster?
Chandrika? I’m sorry, but she is a short, thick-set creature, with coarse, commonplace features and that swaggering air of pretension which marks a low woman who is trying to elbow her way upward in the world.
the mobs in tamil nadu are behaving just like the sinhala nationalist extremists they claim to be opposing. shameful behaviour by them. jayalalitha and karunanidhi need to stop playing with sri lanka’s future to score cheap political points. more tamils in SL need to make this clear to the two of them. we are not being helped by their opportunism.
Really? The only thing you find wrong with CBK is her LOOKS? Guess you voted for Paba and Anarkali then.
Her looks aren’t the only thing I find wrong with her. But they are as close to as anything remotely positive that can be reported about her.
Ha… Ha… Ha… Paba, Anarkali… (list goes on) are our leaders. They will take the country to new heights. How intelligent are we to elect them.
