I’m on the bus out of Colombo, heading for the hills. I’ve got some kit for mobile blogging (iPad, EyeFi card to wirelessly upload photos), so might as well use it. Here’s a photo and an extended, meandering caption.

I finish taping the morning show, go home, wash off the kabuki makeup and pack a bag. The maid hasn’t come in weeks so I actually had to go out and buy underwear at the money laundry next to the casino, the only clothing place that’s open late at night. I guess it’s an investment. I stuff it in the bag, tags and all. Chargers, kit, check. There are some people I want to be with in Colombo, but when the chance comes you sometimes just have to go.
Imaad has hooked up some review for a new place in Ella. It (98 Acres Resort) seems way outside of your usual budget, plus I’ve been trying to hook up an Ella trip for months, to no avail. I think it’s my favorite place in Sri Lanka – cool and views to die for. Especially during the Avurudu heat, you need to head for the hills.
Anyways, I meet Imaad at the Asif Hotel near the train station. This is the view out the window, to the New Colonial Hotel and Ray-Ban Opticians. We get out, turn right and catch the bus to Badulla. Here are some things they sell on the bus: Gold chains (Rs. 100 for two), Optical illusion books (Rs. 50, bought one), fruit (oranges, narang), foodstuffs (wade, cashew nuts), and of course drinks. I’m sitting here with an optical illusion book where you drag a film across a 2D image and a penguin or shark or whatever begins to dance. It’s pretty awesome, but I wish I’d bought a drink as well.
