Tropical hills.
I’m in Ella with Imaad, officially to review this new resort, 98 Acres. It’s damn nice, degrees of magnitude above my usual accom. As in, this is not a place I could usually afford, but if you can, you should. It’s the best place I know of in Ella (IMHO, one of the best places in Sri Lanka) and it’s definitely unique.
These cool hills are full of great converted plantation bungalows, stunning views, et cetera. The architecture remains, however, largely British. You have the outside and the inside and they’re largely separate worlds. 98 Acres transplants beach style cabanas to the hills, which is surreal, but it kinda works.
I’ll get into it further, but for now here are some photos of the place at night, long exposures. With the shutter open for about 4-5 seconds. So this is not real light.

What is this doing here? Ghibli-oleth
The sainted, painted hills
The moon. You can see it from the bathtub
Ella is a beautiful space and 98 Acres is a beautiful space. Food is also excellent and the WiFi is insanely fast. Uploading each of these photos takes like 5 seconds for example. Anyways, I don’t know the price or any relevant details yet. Shall post in a further post.
wow…really nice pics…
night photos with long exposure sure adds a certain glamour…
Super! so this place situated above Ella Motel. Right? – http://www.ceylonhotels.lk/index.php/our-collection/62–grand-ella-motel
Holy shit your long exposures are good! :O
We just discovered 98 Acres today. What an amazing place. We asked for the price and they charge $120 per night. Really wish we could afford staying there.
