I’m hosting Good Morning Sri Lanka tomorrow, on MTV Sports, at like 7:15 am I think. The guest will be Brigadier L.C. Perera, who I hope you know from his series of videos here. Seriously, check them out. He’s a career soldier who’s been there from the 83 riots to the JVP insurrection to the war and Menik Farm. And now he’s focused on reconciliation. He’s got some great stories, but also some interesting new ideas.
One of the things we’ll talk about is how ordinary people can make reconciliation happen themselves. Because we have to, the government and ‘international community’ fundamentally cannot. Recon has to be between human beings. One of the new ideas is a national memorial to the war – one that isn’t political or military in nature. One which encapsulates and remembers the suffering and perseverance of the war in a national, unifying sense. I’m not entirely sure what that would mean, but we’ll talk about it on the show tomorrow.
This is Good Morning Sri Lanka, on MTV Sports at 7:15 tomorrow. I don’t own a TV so I can’t even tell you what channel it is.
