Friends have commented that I use the word bullshit too much, especially on the Channel 4 post here. Indeed, I find unright speech the hardest thing to take sil from. That said, I really can’t think of a good synonym for bullshit.
I was trying to edit the Channel 4 review for print and I had to take the swears out. Which were a lot. Some were unnecessary, but bullshit was. What else do you call it?
Nonsense? But BS isn’t just nonsense, a child can speak nonsense. BS is deceptive, intentional nonsense.
Dishonesty? Sorta. But bullshit isn’t quite lying either. A person can BS and believe it. If it is lying, it’s a particular type and tone.
Bunkum? More accurate, but hard to say without a bowler hat. Same for bullpuckey. Or balderdash.
Those are all the synonyms for bullshit I can think of. So till I find something better, I’ll guess I’ll have to call bullshit bullshit.
Well, there’s “bulldust” (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/bulldust) but that’s just bullshit by another name :D
Hogwash ?
Tosh? baloney? poppycock? Not as effective a bull though.
All things in moderation. That’s all I’m saying.
Rajiv, I agree. My mother also told me so. That post is literally stream of consciousness.
Bulldust is not so bad
Bullshit is good. Otherwise you get into the world of ‘Terminological inexactitudes’ or ‘Lacking Clarity’.
Not my creation… http://tinyurl.com/6uv3bbm
I suggest the term “GERI GOO”
Yes, it’s Sinhala, but it works I think.
Bullshit is bullshit dude, how ever much it is disguised. Perhaps you can replace some with a few bullcraps, craps, bollocks and cojons just to break the monotony of overusing bullshit! ;P
henryblogwalker the Dude
Bovine defecation?
hmm. Guess not.
From a point of view of style, it becomes repetitive if any word is overused. I also find it ugly, from a style point of view, but perhaps thats just my opinion.
