After an initial viral load, the Kony 2012 and Invisible Children movement have actually been getting hammered online. I recommend watching the video, reading the criticism (via Al Jazeera) and then reading their response. They’ve listened to the criticism and their response does answer a lot of questions.
I still don’t like the tone or celebrity/US/military focus of the project, but I don’t think they’re as malicious or suspicious as before. Whatever’s said and done, IC has started a debate and conversation about Central Africa, and they’re responding. It’s actually an interesting conversation to get into. I was still annoyed to get these damn stickers, in Sri Lanka of all places, but that’s still kinda cool. I’m as yet undecided on what I think, but I’m thinking about it. That’s not a bad thing.
