A group of young people in Jaffna want to make that city an IT Hub, a Silicon Valley for the region. Jaffna has been a center of learning for centuries, and even last century it was the second city of Ceylon in many ways. It certainly could be again. These young people, who I know through Sayy, have started the Yarl IT Hub and they’re having their first meetup on the 3rd of March.
In other news, Red Bull’s Chris Pfeiffer is also going to be in Jaffna tomorrow, doing crazy motorbike tricks. He’ll be in Colombo on the 3rd.
Anyways, it’s great that Jaffna is on the map again, and slowly picking up speed. When I was in Jaffna we hung out with a guy from Colombo who
It’s also great that there are hopeful movements coming from young people in the Yarl. More power to them. Yarl IT Hub’s Facebook page is deffa worth a like. For more general Jaffna Love, the I Love Jaffna page has over 25,000 fans and consistently posts awesome news and photos from an awesome place. Go Yarl.
So nice to hear this sort of news coming from the North. I’m sure they’ll be very successful. Jaffna has always been known for producing good mathematicians. This year’s best A/Level math student came from Jaffna too.
Sri Lanka certainly has potential to become the first developed country in South Asia. All the vital stats are there – high literacy, high life expectancy, low infant mortality, replacement level fertility rate, educated populace, decent infrastructure, excellent geography and location. Sri Lanka doesn’t have crippling poverty, mass illiteracy, malnutrition, or overpopulation of India.
With the right leadership Sri Lanka is ripe for economic takeoff, and it certainly looks like it’s taking off with 8% + economic growth since the war ended. Wth sustained growth it can reach First World status.
Do you foresee Sri Lanka becoming a developed country by 2030? If not, why not? If South Korea (which started off at a lower base than Sri Lanka in the 70s) managed this why not SL?
Jaffna an IT hub..brilliant…This is one of the best things to happen for SL..
