Any important match, you can find Sri Lankans crowded around the TV shops, watching through the window. I watched bits of the India match at the mall, along with like 75 other people. They were lined up outside Abans, the Sony Store, any place with a TV.
Sri Lanka was doing great, I thought, putting up 320 in 50 overs. I went down south, to Kalutara. Meanwhile, India caned us like a redheaded donkey, scoring 321 in 36 overs. At that rate they would have got over 400. Damn.
Seeing people watching cricket from the shop windows is always a beautiful sight. It shows that they care. For a while the government made cricket as depressing as office politics. In many ways, their gross mismanagement foreshadowed the current economic fuckupalypse. They put cronies in charge, built a bunch of stupid shit, lost a lot of money and ultimately couldn’t pay the players for months. They kinda did the same thing with the country.
Anyways, fuck it, Mahela for President. I hope they beat Australia on Friday.
