Sri Lanka cricket says T.M Dilshan has sent his resignation from the Captaincy of the national team a short while ago.

Despite winning the last few matches, word (on Daily Mirror SMS at least) is that TM Dilshan is resigning as captain of the Sri Lankan team. Following the resignation of captain Kumar Sangakkara and Vice Captain Mahela Jayawardena, this (to me) seems damn close to a strike by the cricket team. There has been terrible political interference and mismanagement, and worst of all, the politicians have blamed the cricketers. They still represent the country, but it must be hard.
The most obvious problem is that the cricketers haven’t been paid in almost a year, because the cricket board blew all the money during the World Cup, on stadiums, mostly named after Mahinda Rajapaksa. Actually, a lot of the meddling (and messing up) seems to have come from the President himself. They finally had an Cricket Board election, but all the same people were elected uncontested, because of political meddling behind the scenes. Honestly, I think there was meddling in the selection of the World Cup squad itself (with Ajantha Mendis and almost half the team being replaced), verging on a good suspicion that someone decided to throw the final match, or was incredibly incompetent.
Please note that all of the above is speculation on my part. The only bit of sourced news is that Tillakaratne Dilshan has submitted his resignation as captain of the Sri Lankan cricket team.
But to return to ranting, everybody is taking the fall for the struggling cricket team except the people that need to be blamed. The captains, the coach, and the players have all suffered and tried to change the situation, but the meddling politicians, President and cricket board are still there, still making bad decisions, still willfully messing up the national sport.
UPDATE: Mahela Jayawardena has reportedly been renamed as captain, which is damn good, though the meddling still sucks.
