Trishaw in Mawanella town
Trishaws can communicate great wisdom, though they often drive like asses. Trishaw drivers express a range of sentiments via stickers and arts, ranging from the power of mothers love to today’s insight “Art Is Long, Life Is Short”. Quite true.
I saw this in Mawanella town, right after another trishaw willfully and dickishly backed into me. The wise trishaw was standing still, coincidentally next to someone selling art.
Just Rs. 200 for a huge print
So I got to thinking about it. Life is short, but art, at least good art, can live forever. Indeed, much of what we know about history or anything – ranging from cave paintings to the Ramayana – is conveyed and carried through art. So we bought some art. I got a giant sailboat.
My friend Graham got this piece, which we unfolded in the middle of the street as a sort of portal into the alternate and ageless world that art creates. Then a bus came and we had to move.
Why didn’t you tried again after the bus went?
Ars longa, vita brevis?
