I saw some kids riding motorbikes like idiots down my parents street. Turned the corner and they’d fallen over . Most drag racing and mechanical tomfoolery is dumb, but it’s also fun, I guess. Doing it illegally is dangerous as hell, so I’m glad they finally organized something safe(r) and official.
I didn’t go cause I was sleeping or reading Game Of Thrones or something. Personally, I think drag racing is a bit mad. A lot of kids spend lakhs turning their Mistubishi Lancers into transvestite Evos or putting loud pipes on thin reeds of engines. Not my thing, but if it’s their thing then cool. Drag racing used to be done on the sly and my last memory is a kid flipping over and dying in Malabe, near Millenium IT.
The event they had on Green Path looks way safer and it also looks like people had fun. Green Path (from the tennis courts to the Arts Center I think) is a rather short stretch though. I would think that something like Marine Drive would be better, and much more picturesque.

Marine Drive or Elvitigala Mawatha would definitely be better. Green Path is horribly surfaced and isn’t even straight. I did a run down it late Friday night when they were getting ready to put up the sandbags. At 130-kmph, even with a lowered ride and very stiff suspension, I was close to losing control of my car ‘cos of the dips and ripples in the road, and had to back off. It would have been nuts if there had been another car alongside. They ran a Nissan GTR on Saturday which caned the pants off an STi, but I wonder how fast even he could get up to on that crap road.
they should really do it on the Southern Expressway before it opens
