Look man, it’s not that complicated. You can’t win, you leave. I was walking around Arpico and I heard him complaining about a private media station. On the radio, he wasn’t there. I can’t find balsamic vinegar anywhere. Then someone got on and said, ‘he can’t win elections’. I agree with the latter.
I quickly went thru the (Wikipedia) results for the local/PC/Parliament/Presidential elections since 1999. Ranil was getting beat, and for a while he simply gave up. Now he’s just lashing out at the private media and trying to get the police to prevent demonstrations by UNP reformists. By any objective measure, he should go, but he remains, the dictator of the opposition.
I got another one. Ranil is an old boy of Royal College, but he seems to follow the St. Thomas motto. Esto perpetua. Be thou forever. Boom. Seriously. Thanks for your service. Time to go.
Fun note: the Wikipedia image of Ranil Wickremesinghe is a terrible photo taken by me at UNP headquarters. I suppose it’s the only one available under Creative Commons. The picture of Douglas Devananda is also by me. He looks like a belligerent koala bear. FYI, I have worked for the UNP in the past couple elections, quite publicly I think.
