Grease yakas have been reported islandwide. Graphic by Sunday Times
Not by grease yakas (grease devils that sparked mass hysteria) but the Women and Media Collective has organized a group of men and women from affected areas to share their experiences. It’ll be at the Hotel Renuka at 3 PM today. I can’t make it, but if someone else goes, please let me knows.
Women and Media Collective (WMC) is organizing a press conference at Hotel Renuka on Wednesday the 17th of August at 3.00 pm in order to discuss the incidence of “Grease Devils”.
Those speaking to the media will be a group of women and men including those from the East, the hill country and the South who are dealing with this issue and will be sharing their experiences. (via Facebook)
As they say, “The incidence of violence due to “Grease Devils” has rapidly turned into a crisis, creating mass hysteria and causing damage to human lives. Therefore, this will be a valuable opportunity for a clear dialogue to be formed in the media about it.”
This is true.
I believe the Media has added to the Grease Yaka fire and that there are many types of people, groups and factions in this one word Grease Yaka. The media therefore have done a great injustice by even referring to this word, as it is hiding a great many problems of our society under one pseudonym. I am not sure what this press conference brings to the table, but I hope the Media attending it will stop using this word forthwith so it can die a death just the way the Arsenic has not died from the reporting, replaced by the “YAKA”.
Do you guys have a shortage of reporting matter? Surely not!
Ha ha and it’s at Renuka! the perfect place to get greased up.
