ODEL is Sri Lanka’s main department store (that and House Of Fashions). They also used to run the only real fashion photography. Sadly, their advertising has now gone to the dogs.
Literally. ODEL used to feature great Indian and Sri Lankan models wearing, you know, interesting clothes. Now their marketing is dominated by the owner’s dog, in cartoon form. Either that or black and white pictures of western celebrities copied from the Internet (inside branches). It’s kinda depressing.
There was a time when the clothes shop advertised clothes and fashion, with pretty girls. Now, if I remember correctly, there’s some stock image of a white guy in polo clothes on the main billboard and cartoon graffiti of dogs on the walls. It’s kinda wack.
Well I really like the Embark campaign, but perhaps too much focus is placed on it. On the other hand, everyone goes to Odel to buy clothes of reputable brands, so why bother advertising much really? The only reason they advertised the Polo Assn. brand is because it was introduced just recently. Odel would have more to gain by advertising their own embark brand.
Embark’s too niche to be their main thrust. They should take that online and get back to advertising clothes in ATL.
Yeah, I think the Embark stuff is cool, but it’s become their main brand identity, and the focus of their creativity.
Their fashion photography and ads have sucked for years now, and that’s their main line of business. It’s gone to the dogs.
i didn’t know there were odel brands.
