I think is really is Aluthgamage’s official FB page, which no one is checking. The comments are hilarious
Oh God, I feel bad piling on to the Sri Lanka Cricket Board, we so rarely get to hit the government these days. The board’s traditional response to anything is to double down on stupid. When they got jealous of the Indian Premier League, for example, they decided to launch their own – which has failed to materialize. When Kumar Sangakkara gave a constructively critical speech, the Sports Minister’s response was to call for an investigation. Which has failed to materialize.
This is predictable, but still hilarious. Island Cricket breaks the incompetence down nicely:
“He is contract player,” Aluthgamage told Reuters. “He has signed an agreement with [SLC] and he can’t make a statement like that. He has to get permission. He can’t talk about the cricket administration or cricket. He can say anything about him. I have written to the chairman of the cricket board to go into this and get me a report immediately.”
Aluthgamage, a former student of Colombo’s Royal College, was apparently unaware that Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), which is faced with an unprecedented financial crisis after the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, have failed to award contracts to players this year.
Furthermore, Sangakkara had approval from the home board to deliver the prestigious lecture.
Seriously, so dumb. What’s scary is that this is probably one of the better functioning arms of the government. I don’t even want to think about the corruption and incompetence that pervades where the sun don’t shine.
