Seriously, fuck trishaws. I have been run over by trishaws, cut off by trishaws and spend every day with them swarming around me like gnats. They are unsafe for everyone involved, polluting (though less than before) and generally noxious. People do, however, need affordable transport. Enter the Tata Nano. India’s cheapest car costs about Rs. 925,000. More expensive than a shaw I think, but
more affordable. They’re being imported for at least two cab services, which I think is about time.
For a while, I thought that meter tuks would redeem the beasts. Indeed, they brought drivers from outstation who were courteous, cautious and on time. Also ignorant. Sadly, they bit of the big apple and quickly became rude, mad and late. Now if you call the meter tuk services they often don’t arrive at all, so fuck them too. I’m trying not to curse so much, but I really don’t know what else to say.
Now the Straits Times is reporting that trishaw drivers have protested against competition from Nano cabs. Which I welcome. There’s been news of their import for a while, and I’ve started to see the cabs around. They have doors and look professional.
I found some media and a phone number ((011)267-6767) on a Facebook page, but have yet to ride in a cab. Have you?
