Jobcast in action. Nothing crazy, but gets the job done. Screenshot.
Facebook is pretty good for recruiting. Through a FB page you can share information. Through FB Ads, you can target good candidates. The question is, how do you close the deal? How do you get them to apply? Is there an App for that? Why yes there is. Jobcast.net does it pretty well.
Jobcast.net has a recruitment app that you can add to a Facebook Page. I tried a couple solutions and this was the only one that A) I could install painlessly and B) that let me post a decent looking job description and route an application. The functionality is really quite simple, you just post a job and it appears on your wall and in a separate tab. For the applicant, they just see a job and its details. At the bottom they can click to apply on the company homepage. Apparently Jobcast also processes applications, but I didn’t try that.
The best competitor, IMHO, is Job Publisher. It lets you post jobs quite simply, but it doesn’t let you link out to process the application. It just collects name/email/phone, which is cool, but part of the application process is getting a CV and cover letter to weed out the duds. I guess Job Publisher is good if you’re not expecting many applicants, but it’s bad if you are.
There are other apps but I found them either found them too specific (integrating with some service I don’t know) or difficult/impossible to install.
Why An App?
Of course, you could just post a job description and application link to Facebook Notes. The problem with that is that I also use Notes for other related stuff. Having a jobs apps means that you can direct people to the relevant place directly from the ad.
Why not direct them to your website? Because Facebook Ads measures social reach and connections and I like watching those graphs go up. Mainly. But also because those people might ‘like’ your page and then you can reach them again without paying for it.
Dunno yet, still trying it out.
