Chicken Submarine by Hashir Milhan
Dinemore has one of the best business models in Sri Lanka. Serve halal food to families, fast. It’s a bit salty for my taste, but an occasional buriyani or submarine is nice. Now they’ve opened a branch on Marine Drive in record time. It’s a great location, on the beach, minimal traffic, etc. Sadly, the new branch sucks. Service is slow, food is delivered wrong and/or bad and even the 7-Up tastes like damp rag. Expansion fail.
Both Dinemore and Marine Drive are ripe for expansion. Dinemore is always packed in the two outlets I know, one on Thurstan Road and the other on that road heading up from Liberty Junction. If you go out you’ll find that there’s a huge market for Muslim families and it seems to be getting bigger. Dinemore serves that market head-on. It’s basically like a Muslim McDonald’s.
Marine Drive is a great stretch of road with not too much stuff on it. There’s an excellent breakfast kade, Thushara’s, and a unique fried chicken/fried rice at Copper Chimney, but nothing developed or family friendly per se. There’s Marry Brown (spelling?) and its Indian and Jaffna outlets but they (aside from the latter’s lunch) suck. It’s a shame that the new Dinemore sucks too.
LOL.. I think Indi needs to brush before he tries the 7UP, bcoz 7UP should taste like 7UP :D
There’s a Dinemore at every former Domino’s pizza place. Anywho Dinemore is more like a Sri Lankan version of the Subway franchise na?
@MLB Actually Dinemore is nothing like Subway. Subway’s specialty is sandwiches and each one is made according to the customer’s requirements (Depending on preferred sauces, vegetables, type of bread and meat etc) within minutes. Its more of a grab and go thing.
While, Marine Drive really *does* need to be developed, perhaps Dinemore should stop expansion and focus on quality control instead?
Haven’t had a dinemore submarine in ages. They used to have this chicken filling smothered in a mix of mayo and ketchup which was good. But the sandwitch in the pic here looks like it’s stuffed with lunumiris. :O
I Agree that the Service is Slow.. I think there is only one Waiter for the whole outlet.. he takes the order he brings the food he brings the bill to all customers.. =) but the quality of the food is still great.. and the view from the top floor with the sunset is pretty Awesome =) also the design of the building is pretty awesome 2 =)
I do know about your taste buds but my relatives took me to the Thurston place. Nothing to write about, tastes like badly made Philly cheese steak sandwich (made with chicken). But it kept my tummy full until Kandy on the way to Nuwaraeliya.
Like Kiribath, I am also wondering how could sprite taste so bad? I did drink any sprite in SL as I got hooked on Cream Soda from Keels (Elephants house?) and Tambilis
“Do not know about your taste buds”
Their subs used to be good. Tried something at their branch near the Moors sports ground (in the rough vicinity of the Gangaramaya temple) and it was not great.
is the beach wadia still there
There’s one in Kandy I think. Don’t know exactly where. On Dodanwala or some road like that.
Its there but I have not been in a few years, the quality was not the same, the last time I was there.
i have to go there then. Haven’t been there post tsunami. i hope they haven’t lost the pictures and the guest book
Dodo, I’ll take you, but you might need a posse of bodyguards.
