There are a lot of things I can’t tell apart. Cargills and Keells for example. They are both red and I cannot for the life of me tell which one I’m in. High Level Road and Baseline Road. I like both names and they both make sense to me, but both names are so generic that they make sense going either way. I’m sure there is a reason which hopefully someone can elucidate in the comments, but I’m always mixing them up. Karavila and karavela. I get them always confused. One is fish and one is bitter gourd. I understand this is stupid for any native Sinhala speaker, but I’m not. The Anglican Bishop of Colombo and the Catholic one. Rajapaksa and Rajapakse. Which one is right, I don’t know. I’ve seen even Mahinda material that uses both. Panadol and Panadeine. Any of the Pilawoos restaurants on Galle Road. Etc.
If I may go on, I can’t tell any of the new generic Chinese cars from any other similar Chinesecar. I also cannot tell a Kia and a Hyundai Tucson apart unless I see the name. I cannot tell mutton from sheep from goat. I cannot tell where any Colombo suburb begins or ends. Nawala for example. Also Ratmalana. I can’t tell one brand of yogurt from another, at least while buying them. I cannot differentiate the stars in the sky. I guess that’s all for now.
