I post this for interest, it’s a high definition, beautifully cut video of North Korea’s recent ‘we have a military never mind the starvation’ march. I’ve seen CNN video of the march, which is essentially people moving around, but this edit captures the splendid horror of it all. My favorite shot is, at the end, when Kim Jong Il claps boredly and limply trails his hand along the railing on the way out. Another favorite scene is the heads of soldiers chatting and one female soldier laughing as seen through flowers.
Pretty. Wonder how many hours of rehersals they suffer. Maybe not as much as we would, as even they’re school kids seem ever so desciplined.
Groovy marching – the seem to straighten their legs a lot later that what you used to see in older DPRK military parades. But perfection as always, just as you’d expect from our North Korean friends.
Bet these soldiers love it – taking part in a well organized, well executed military parade always gives soldiers a great sense of pride.
Anyone who liked that will like this

Great vid, great track, great band.
Do they actually play the Hell March song at their parades?
Have these jokers even seen a day of battle, and would they know what to even do? I’d like to introduce their military top brass to members of the Sri Lanka Commando Regiment or the Special Forces.
your war is a fart compared to the korean war they went through (yes quite some time ago), go learn it before u talk and insult other forces. they could crush all your so called heroes in 1 day even now
btw, i loathe that regime, it’s SCUM. probably the worst country in the world. not the ppl or the soil and sea it is on, the rulers are the culprits.
They look like ants. Not humans. Ants. No individuality.
FYI, the Korean War was not a guerilla war, and it was fought almost 60 years ago. I highly doubt any of the forces who fought the Korean War are still goose-stepping in parades in their 80s and 90s. Go learn to think before you talk out of your ass.
This is different in any other military parade, how?
Say What,
I think its you that’s talking out of your ass.
As good as the SL army is (or should I say was?), it is nothing compared to the North Korean Army, which is one of the biggest armies in the world, and significantly better equipped, in comparison to the Sri Lankan Army.
I’m sure we can make the North Koreans fight one another if we throw some chicken bones at them.
@boss
thanks, i did give him a second chance,so he could even just wiki it, but evidently he didnt even do that because he’s still talking rubbish….let us all draw our own conclusions on this luminary of martial affairs….
Yeah, I can’t believe this guy thought the SL Army was somehow better than the North Korean Army. Specially the SL Army of today, which is lead by a xxxxxx and a bunch of yes men. Sure, we’ve got some great, very experienced people, but North Korea??! What the fuck is this guy on??!
@dodo
is it because they are poor u say this (chicken bones)? if so, it’s a bit rich coming from someone i suppose comes from sri lanka, a country that receives foreign aid….just like north korea does….
Well at least our people aren’t starving to make way for those shinning new missiles. Moreover, i was point out the fact that the North Korean army is starving, and has been starving for quite sometime. I highly doubt they can actually sustain a war for more than a few months. So if push comes to shove, they can easily be beaten by a smaller army that’s willing to bunker down. Although, SLA is too small for this and sorely lacking an air force or anti air.
Wow.
You guys seem to be seriously debating whether or not the SL Army can kick the North Koreans ass…
How would our army even get there? Aboard that jetliner thing that’s giving people rides round the harbour??!
What if they use nukes on us? What if they use chemical weapons on us? I’m no expert on the Sri Lankan Army, but I’ve never heard of anyone being issued NBC/CBRN gear…
@dodo
“Well at least our people aren’t starving to make way for those shinning new missiles” no they are not? we all live in luxury here dont we…. why do u think sl gets foreign aid (just like the koreans) even if there SHOULDN’T BE ANY NEED FOR IT? because there is no food here? or because the other countries feel sorry for the population who is deprived by a succession of corrupt regimes preying on its own population? why do they prey? to maintain what? join the dots and maybe u can come up with a rational answer.
do you deny that sl receives foreign aid then? if we do receive foregin aid, we are just like the koreans. therefore your throwing chicken bones at them from your superior status (hahaha) is a totally gratuitous remark, is it not? it’s like the blind taking the piss from the deaf. pathetic.
boss gave u the answer, how long do you think sl would survive after the koreans press the red button? 1 MINUTE? or has sl’s star wars program now reached new heights?!? lol! even if it did go to ground level, they have close to 10.000.000 troops…. (all with the same uniform AND boots, lol)
what a joke you guys are, i really dont know where u get these ideas from….it’s hilarious!
Er… Dodo… The North Korean armed forces aren’t anywhere near starving. It’s the civilians. The armed forces have ample rations. And the Koreans (both North and South) are some of the toughest and bravest troops in the world. Ask anyone who’s fought alongside them (or against them) and they’ll tell you.
Way to miss the point. Point was about the North Korean army is starving, hense it’s highly unlikely they are actually an effective fighting force. I made this explicitly clear in my last post. It had fuck all to do with people getting aid. I’ve noticed you have this tendency to get on your high horse and masturbate to your moral superiority. But trust me sonny, it just looks stupid.
And stop comparing the Sri Lankan aid situation & leadership with that of North Korea. That amount of ‘fail’ might break the internet.
And one last thing, there is no way in hell North Korea has 10 million deployable troops. I suggest you do a reality check on that stat.
Blacker, it’s not just the people anymore the army is starving. The situation is so bad that sometimes people leave their camps to scavenge for food. I’ll link the new articles in second.
And I’m not taking anything away from the North Koreans as a people or their army’s toughness, bravery etc..
But if your troops are starving they can’t effectively fight for long. At least that is what convention wisdom says.
@dodo
you’re the one throwing bones around. not me. therefore, you get off your (very much supposed) moral and military (lol) superiority (towards the koreans) , not me. you’re the one looking stupid here, not me.
i’ll try again, one last time…. when you sya “Well at least our people aren’t starving to make way for those shinning new missiles” you obviously create a link between army and weapons proliferation and “starvation”, (mangaed by the rulers of any country, including ours). I only put a mirror in front of your face, after you had taken an ill-positioned superiority stance by trying to ridicule the korean forces. it seems you cant look at yourself in this mirror as you didnt answer the questions i put forward in my previous comment.
“And one last thing, there is no way in hell North Korea has 10 million deployable troops. I suggest you do a reality check on that stat.”
yawn….. koreans are instructed on how to be “good koreans” from early days. this includes being SOLDIERS, good communists, totally dedicated to “The Party”, their dictator etc.
therefore at least 10.000.000. when you include civilians, who can rapidly become fit for service (regulars/reserves/paramilitary etc) , because they have received military training in their early stages of their lives.
e.g.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_number_of_troops (u also fall like say what on SIMPLE basic wiki research….)
not enough?
http://www.globalfirepower.com/manpower-fit-for-military-service.asp
sri lanka is not even in the list. the equipment, arms etc is nowhere near comparable. so now….
do you copy? roger and out.
What a huge load of bollocks, Dodo. Most of the stories about the North Korean army starving is being fed to the media by the west, by guys like Robert Gates ( he made this comment last year) as an excuse for the US’ impotent attempts to make Pyonyang toe the nuclear line. Most of it is rubbish. Part of the reason the N Korean populace is starving is because whatever they’re producing is being given to the army. Unlike Iran, the US really can do nothing about North Korea and they know it, all that’s left is silly posturing which the western media (and you) seem to lap up. Japan has also added to it by also releasing such statements for more or less the same reason.
And as for the N Koreans not being able to sustain a long war, why do they need to. Their army will come in behind a wave of NBC munitions and take Seoul in five minutes.
Rubbish, you fail at reading comprehension. why don’t you stop making up shit and read what I wrote, again.
The Korean population is 24 million. the standing army 1 million. this 10 million you parade about can only be achieved if they decided to arm every man & woman between 17 & 49. If you think that is realistic you must be stark raving mad. Lets look at it another way, an AK cost about 200 dollars. North Korean GDP 20 billion. The mere act of give these 10 million a gun, without ammunition mind you, would cost 10% of the North Korean GDP. So seriously, get a grip buddy.
And i don’t know why you keep bringing Sri lankan army into this discussion
Dodo’s right about the size of the N Korean army, but wrong about the starving bit. Rubbish… er rubbish. You don’t calculate an army’s size by counting the country’s military-aged population. That’d put the SL Army at about 5 million lol. You can count the ready reserve if you like, but that’s about it.
Fuck man.
I just read all these comments about the North Koreans and it just made my day.
Blacker, ref your statement
“And the Koreans (both North and South) are some of the toughest and bravest troops in the world. Ask anyone who’s fought alongside them (or against them) and they’ll tell you.”
Have you fought alongside Koreans? Who have the Koreans fought recently? I’m asking cos I don’t know… Also, its CBRN, not NBC. I know I also used the old acronym NBC, but they stopped calling it that quite some time back. As our resident military expert, I just thought you should know ;) Oh and by the way, do SL Army soldiers receive any CBRN training/eqpt?
Rubbish, if you want to sound military, don’t ever use “roger and out” in that context. The yanks use “over and out” sometimes, but even that’s bad VP. “over” means you require an answer, “out” means end of message, no reply required. Just thought I’d clear that up for you :)
Oh yeah, Blacker, about the SL Army and comms, do they transmit in Sinhalese? Also, since I’m pretty sure that the SL Army does not have secure comms and probably uses HF or VHF radios, do you transmit in clear or do you have some means of encoding messages? As in, do you tell the guy you want to communicate with “I am going to go to go to location X to kick the shit out of those terras” or does the message transmitted take the form “foxtro zulu sierra quebec ……..” ? Thanks in advance for the info, Blacker.
Dodo, I think you forgot to post that link which says the North Korean Army is starving and scavenging…
@dodo and blacker
i said “therefore at least 10.000.000. when you include civilians, who can rapidly become fit for service (regulars/reserves/paramilitary etc) , because they have received military training in their early stages of their lives.”
you (dodo) reply “The Korean population is 24 million. the standing army 1 million. this 10 million you parade about can only be achieved if they decided to arm every man & woman between 17 & 49”
who needs reading comprehension? oh no! you again.
“The mere act of give these 10 million a gun, without ammunition mind you, would cost 10% of the North Korean GDP. So seriously, get a grip buddy.” they ALREADY HAVE these guns and ammo for these people as they regularly spend around 16% (not 1o) of gdp on military annually. comprende? they have SHITLOADS OF STOCKPILES of any conceivable weapon!! ak guns my ass!!
anyway, bye
Doesn’t our resident multiple personality seem to be in his element today? Wow, aren’t we all impressed by all that tough militaryspeak? Bet he’s planning to write the sequel to ‘ A Cause Untrue’ or the screenplay.
My goodness, he’s even teaching David Blacker a few things about NBC and CBRN, whatever that may be.
Who the fuck’s trying to impress you, woman? What makes you think I’d want to write a sequel or screenplay to a book I’ve never read? What’s “tough” about my earlier comment?
Sri Lanka spends about 215Bn rupees on defence, and 16Bn on education. Even less on health.
Ain’t that the sad truth.
It’s pathetic. And what’s more disturbing is that this has been the trend since the mid 90s
Boss, try Google. Rubbish, you picked the perfect handle.
Blacker, try google, you say? About whether or not the SL army conducts CBRN training and for information regarding their comms procedures?
Dunno if you’ve tried looking, but there isn’t a lot of info about the SL Army and their training/procedures on the net… At least I couldn’t find any… But don’t worry, man – I’m not that interested now.
Was just interested in how the SL Army did things, quite randomly, and thought I’d ask you since I’ve heard you were in the SL Army before you got bored of it ;) and also because you seem to like to talk about military stuff – like on your blog where you speak with an air of authority about operational procedures and weapon systems that I’m fairly sure you’ve never used or even seen for real (pls correct me if I’m wrong, and btw google images don’t count) ;)
I quote.
“Yup, LSWs, accurized M4s, and other automatic weapons such as the new MSR are getting more usage now by designated marksmen and even snipers in the urban environments of Iraq, where snipers and marksmen are tending to try and hit more enemy troops in an engagement rather than take out a specific high value target.”
At least it impresses the likes of this shammi woman.
Good luck with your writing, by the way.
Looks like the penny’s finally dropped eh? ;)
@blacker
you say gratuitously :”Rubbish, you picked the perfect handle”
i say with reason: sod off baulderick, no!, sorry, that’s too much, turnip!
@lefroy
a northkorean approach to society?
What?
