Military assisting MPs. From The Sunday Leader
If it rains for more than half an hour, Colombo floods. It rained all last night, and many people are now out of office and home, including Parliamentarians. The military had to be assisted to help them as well as the thousands that have been displaced. Low-lying areas flood rather frequently in Colombo, I think because our drainage system is quite out of date. I personally know people in Battaramulla, Nawala and environs whose homes are under water. I’ve heard reports from the shanties in North Colombo and I can only imagine. When those areas flood everything gets wrecked. This, sadly, is a somewhat perennial disaster. What comes next is standing water, mosquitos and another wave of dengue. I’m luckily unaffected. I hope you and yours are well.

Flooding in a low income area
Town Hall deluged
Epic pic of that APC carrying MPs. :D
OMG the ESEs are getting fucked :) Unable to differentiate themselves from the hoi polloi this time.
floods or no floods the shot of the TH is a rare and elegant one!
I think you’re jumping the gun here Ruki. Most of the ESE have access to high powered vehicles that don’t get too affected by such piddling things like a little rain. Unlike of course the YAKOS who drive around in their dinky little Maruti cars! LOL….!!!!

I heard International School students had to wade through knee deep water to get to their hoity toity schools. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
Mother earth, the great equalizer.
LoL
Indi, i you stirred up something interesting. It was always there, but it was sort of Subterranean then, now it’s out in the open.
Hehe, I like how you refer to them as ‘low income areas’. We used to call them shanties.
Let’s hope some industrious politician doesn’t get the wise idea of having water around TH forever on govt. expense!
