Policeman in south, from Perambara
UPDATE: Can get absolutely no confirmation on this. Think it may be just noise.
There are several reports that police have been told to leave polling stations in Batticaloa, including Kottakallaru, Kaldawala, Eruvil, and Thurainalavana. Supposedly on Karuna’s orders. This is coming from several sources. One version of the story is that they are emptying and restuffing the ballot boxes, though who knows. There’s a lot of noise about it, but who knows what if anything will be done.
There are rumors that a helicopter has landed in Batti with ballot boxes. Also hearing from two sources that space has been cleared for a helicopter in Trincomallee District, Sambalthivu. Cannot be confirmed. It’s very hard to tell, cause some of these reports could also be disinformation to get votes tossed out.
Update, organizers on the ground say no, there isn’t such dodginess. It’s really hard to tell. Turnout in the North and East is a bit low at 20%, according to the Daily Mirror.
This is not a good news for Sarath Fonseka’s camap.
Only 5% voted in Jaffna by noon.
