Deshan has a photo print of the beach. As you look closer you can see the garbage. That’s the Colombo I know. Above is a photo by Tharindu Amunugama (u4j10.wordpress.com). It also captures a bit of how Colombo feels to me. I like walking the streets. You can see more. Down my street the National Hospital burns medical waste at night. During the rains a girl got swept into a storm drain and died. It’s also very green and there’s a lot of trees. I take the kids to Vihara Maha Devi Park sometimes. There’s flowers and waters and a two story concrete slide with steps missing. Colombo. It’s hit or miss.
As much as I complain about the CMB, I wouldn’t live anywhere else. Everybody is here. You can buy electronics. However, there are days when I feel like the girl above. Just hot. Tired of walking on the street cause the sidewalks are defiled. Which is all to say, it’s an interesting photograph.
I wouldnt live anywhere else either….damn i miss the rotting cesspool that is colombo.
I know how you feel. We all whine about the rain, the sun, the humidity, the idiots, but we are all still here claiming our little bits of the city..
