download a PDF here: kottu-01-october
I talked about this ages ago. Ran into some money issues with an insert but we’re doing a test run tomorrow in one of the sections of the Sunday Leader. The ‘Review’ section I believe, there’s a sample of Kottu in the middle. Not hyping it too much, the images may be upside down and the thing may be on fire, I dunno. Things often get befuddled on the way to the printer. This is just a demo with some Creative Commons licensed photos and some of the posts that seemed popular during the hour I put the thing together. Check it out this Sunday and tell me what’s wrong. There’s a PDF above but the printed version may be a bit different.
there is now officially an incentive not to use fuck in a comment
Nice Indi. Very nice.
How do you justify your claim these are the best? On what basis? Why do you always jump the gun? Are you not required to keep your mouth shut until the Leader is out on the stalls? Your experiment sucks. Sorry
@greene use fuck by all means, I just edit it to something else for print.
@Susan danke
@Anne the methodology was discussed in the last post. I basically look at the ones that get the most clicks and choose some that I think work for print. There’s some basic ‘voting’, but I’m still editing it. I’m also not required to do anything.
It is pretty. Looks professional enough to me.
@ Anne
By no means, Indi is my hero. But, don’t you think he deserve better than that; considering the fact that the effort he makes to do something better than just criticizing.
A good effort but ‘the most clicks’ method is not the best way. Some people have catchy titles and crappy content so its good to browse through other posts too even if its time consuming.
Good luck!
Agree with sahasamvada… most clicked does not necessarily equate with best. “most popular” may be an alternative. Also, even though kottu has blog rolled hundreds of blogs, how representative is it of the Sri Lankan internet?
Great that your idea has finally come to print… I had read the posts before, but it was fun reading them again!
Indi,
Hat off to you for this project.
The hardest part is moving something form the drawing board in to production. It is always better to have a product with little flaws than a perfect idea.
I certainly enjoy reading blog posts rolled by Kottu and now an entire demographic that necessarily do not access blogs can enjoy a different side of SL life and times.
I hope there will be constructive criticism to make the initial offering better.
Good effort saw it this morning in the papers…..
Felt Happy seeing it in print.
I recommend taking a look at my site http://www.airlineindustryreview.com , which is probably the only aviation site in Sri Lanka. However cannot expect it to last long due to financial difficulties.
Indi, is there any way you could post the final version that came out in the Sunday Leader? Does the PDF you have added here carry the same stuff in terms of contents?
