A repudiation of McCain’s bullshit by an adult.
McCain’s entire campaign now seems to be based on random-ass word priming to spread some weird conspiracy theory. What his campaign is saying is that Obama hangs out with terrorists, who gave money to Acorn (which registers voters). The communicated subtext is that Obama is a terrorist, a Muslim and some weird Al Qaeda Manchurian candidate. It’s dark and honestly very scary, with people yelling ‘Kill Him’ at rallies and hanging effigies of Obama outside their houses. It’s really, really dark and racist and bad – and John McCain is encouraging. They just put the words out there – Bill Ayers, terrorist, Acorn, ‘threat to democracy’. The reality is that Obama served on a board with a reformed 60s radical and that Acorn is unaffiliated with his campaign and registered a bunch of Mickey Mouses and reported them – as required to under law. There was no voter fraud, and in the scope of the coming apocalypse these are exceedingly minor issues. But McCain is so gollumed by power that he’s calling his opponent a terrorist and putting his life in danger. Honestly, really sad, really scary, and really wrong.
The only people who’d buy this malarkey would be schizophrenics and the kooks online who posit that Obama has no birth certificate, is Muslim, hates America, etc. I mean, what the fuck. There clinging onto any tenuous association (Bill Ayers) to slip the terrorist word in there and somehow pin the black man as foreign. And I guess one would expect some revulsion from ‘real America’ (actually white America if you look at the demographics Palin visits). But this is also really dangerous. Obama’s life is in danger, and someone the level of McCain spouting crap like he’s a terrorist sympathizer out to steal the election makes me worry about the paranoid schizophrenics who’d actually buy this crap.
Fight The Smears for Obama’s take. Snopes for third party.
