I like pizza. It’s like a sandwich, but simpler. It’s easy to transport and you can fit pieces in a mailbox. I used to order from Domino’s and Pizza Hut, but now there are classier places which are, surprisingly, cheaper. Harpo’s is the main one. I ordered a tandoori pizza from them for breakfast (noon) and ate the whole damn thing. Felt pretty bad after eating half, but it was damn good. Later that evening went to Pizza Margherita (new place on Park Road), which was OK. Their ingredients were real and Italiani, but perhaps I’m just in it for the salt. The espresso was good. But these are the pizza options I know of.
The pizza is good, Extravangza I think, but the service is grade A shite and the delivery guys can barely find their keys. Meh. They usually have this Rs. 1200 (think) deal for pizza, bread, processed cheese and coke. It’s the one night stand of eating. Good, but feel bad after.
Pizza Hut knows more about me than the government. They know my name, my number, my credit history and every place I’ve lived or worked for the last year. The have one of the best customer service units in Sri Lanka, IMHO. Them and House of Fashion. Unfortunately, their pizza is kinda mediocre. Also makes me feel a bit bloated and gross after.
Everybody who’s anybody orders from Harpo’s, the Bayleaf spin-off. I’ve literally tried every pizza from there and they’re damn good. They’re also extragood with tabasco sauce, but maybe everything is. I’d rec the lamb, the pizza margherita (cheese and tomato) and the tandoori pineapple. I had the last one as a first meal of the day, so maybe it’s bad when you’re not famished, dunno.
What’s great about Harpo’s is that it is both class and cheaper than the grosser options. A pizza is about 900 or 1000, 1200 with delivery. And they give you these coupons which everyone has a lot of and I lose.
Ate there today, and they comped us, which was nice. Ingredients (mozarella especsh) imported from Italy and the oven and chef (Luigi) look authentic. I thought the pizza I had was kinda watery and whatevs, but perhaps I’m just comfused by real cheese. I’d also ate an entire pizza earlier that day and was feeling a bit washed on the whole subject. The location there was nice and it was full of hot birds, mostly girlfriends or wives (alas, or anon). It’s on Park Road, where the old Bed nightclub used to be. Perilously close to Mervyn Silva’s house. They do delivery in Colombo 5. It’s about Rs. 1200 for a pizza. I’d certainly recommend trying, plus what the fuck else is opening in these recessive times.
Et cetera. I don’t want anymore pizza for… a week.
