Electra and Friends are organizing drunken women in support of battered women, which should work out for everybody. Tomorrow night this is, at Zanziba. I’ve reserved some tickets and p’haps I’ll see you there. I also hear that someone may reach legal age for all manner of misadventures, so this is a birthday party of sorts as well. I think the events for the night include a stand-up comedian, poetry readings, performances by Ashanthi and Randhir, and DJ. The cause, I think, literally involves building a roof and other things for a battered womens shelter which, all jokes aside, is a good thing. Culturally, women in bad relationships often have nowhere to go and it’s nice to have some place. Also, I’ve been up to my ears in tsunami and it’s nice to feel guilty about something else for once. Oh, and I have nothing to do on Thursday night. So, um, there.
To the best of my knowledge tickets are available at:
Finomenal : G17, Crescat Boulevard, Galle Road, Colombo 03.
Arena : 303, Duplication Road, Colombo 03.
or by emailing venusrocks AT gmail.com. Can also check their blog for more info.
I have also heard rumours that the notoriously reclusive Jihad Mendez may be doing readings from his Cookbook cum CBK tell-all. However, after his weekend arrest for vagrancy and public nudity it remains to see if he will make bail in time. Aside from the events to take your mind off the deafening emptiness of your life, I suspect there will also be booze, to the same end. Lotsa people I know should be there, and if you can spot Electra do wish her happy birthday. She is purple and black, with white lettering.
update: I forgot to mention, it’s at Zanziba, up the street from Galle Face Hotel, in that nook near Tantra. I think. I also think the tickets are Rs 500.
