Florie Auntie’s daughter and her friend walking behind the coffin
My great-aunt Florie passed away last night. She was 90 years old. She’d been ill for a few years, but always in good spirits. She was very active in the Church and had a great many people who she’d helped over the years. I’m Buddhist by choice, but one side of my family is mostly Christian. Many of them are very Christian, and I identify with their faith at times like this. When they talk about their God of the book I feel like he’s the same general presence I feel in Buddhism, but I dunno. Seems nice, at least. Sri Lanka is a big mess of names, religions, and cultures – which is what makes it so fun. The Christian Cemetery is next to the Buddhist one and it’s quite beautiful. Florie Auntie was buried under a big green tree on a beautiful day. I took some photos, mainly for Florie Auntie’s daughter. They can be viewed as a slideshow, or as a gallery.

My condolences, Indi. I only knew when I came home last evening. Mom told me. :(
