Welcome to Galle Face Hotel, my German Friends (Gallery)
This is an update, but I leave about 45 minutes in land and am, as yet, unaffected by the tsunami. I also haven’t left the house all day, so I’ll take some pictures when I go downtown tomorrow. I’m going to guess that my favorite bus station is flooded.
I posted something a while back about SB Dissanayake being thrown in jail by the Supreme Court for the crime of – criticizing the Supreme Court. Then a friend told me to take it down and pick my battles. Lilly saw that and saw it disappear and thought I got taken away for something. Which isn’t true. I’ve just been busy writing the first issue of “it” magazine. It’s IT, except not scary, hence the lowercase. This takes up all my time, but it’s fun. It is also due in a week so I probably won’t post between now and then.
In between, more important things have happened.
Shah Rukh Khan (my favorite Bollywood star) came to Colombo with some of my less favorite stars. In true Sri Lankan style the fundamentalist Buddhists (weird, I know) threw a grenade at the stage. A photographer from Wijeya Newspapers (my publisher) was killed. This because the concert was on the anniversary of the death of Soma Thero, a beloved monk. As far as I know the Buddha wasn’t too keen on the grenade throwing, but I’m no scholar. I think it would do honor to Soma Thero to go home and meditate but again, no scholar.
My cousin Anju, who is extra awesome, got married. She looked beautiful, as usual. Her Amma, who I call Chuti Amma, looked happy… and sad. I suppose that’s how it is. This time is good cause all the family is here. My cousin Thamindu was in from Wales, which was great. I looked up to him when I was a kid, and I think I still do. He took me out with his friends, who are some of the most interesting guys I’ve met in SL.
yes, yes, now back to the magazine.
Glad your not dead. It’s possible I have an overactive imagination.
Good luck with all the magazine stuffins.
We sincerely hope that “Am not dead” relates to the post Tsunami situation.
Have you heard from my E-guaintances Varja and Gumz? I hope they are alive and well too!
