Today I went to the Sunday Times (1) office in downtown Colombo. I’ve been negotiating this IT Magazine dealy with them – with ups and downs – particularily when it comes to my share. I talked to Pragathi for a while about the potential advertisers and distribution channels. Then I left and went to the Leisure Times (2) office near the beach to bounce some ideas off Deshan. I have some better ideas now.
The LT office is near the one part of Colombo I’ve figured out, namely the 177 Bus line. It gets me pretty much anywhere. Tha makes fun of me cause I’ll walk for 2 miles to just get to the 177, but I’m comfortable with it. It was insanely bright and hot today so I stopped in a little Kadaye to have a Pepsi. Incidentally Tha just sent me a relevant link to a Neuromarketing Article in the New York Times (3).
“When researchers monitored brain scans of 67 people who were given a blind taste test of Coca-Cola and Pepsi, each soft drink lit up the brain’s reward system, and the participants were evenly split as to which drink they preferred. But when the same people were told what they were drinking, activity in a different set of brain regions linked to brand loyalty overrode their original preferences. Three out of four said that they preferred Coca-Cola.”
They’re referencing an earlier article which I copied over so as to escape the grim grip of the Pay-Section. It’s called ‘Pepsi Coke Brain Differences’. Hopefully those keywords will pull it out of the archives into the Related Posts section below.
Anyways I drank a Pepsi and I like Coke better. I like the idea of Coke better. It tastes really good when it’s so bloody hot. I paid an extra 7 rupees to take the Air Conditioned 177 home.
