Police Looking For Malaka Silva. Not That Hard

It’s funny cause, wait, it’s not funny. The police are supposedly looking for Malaka Silva, apparently with the same diligence that they’re tracking down Duminda Silva and Lasantha Wickremetunge’s killers. As you can see, on the day they said they were seeking him in connection to an assault on an Army major, he went to visit the Kapilavastu relics at Gangarama, which was under high security. Surrounded by cameras. And police. And, yeah, still looking.

The Daily Mirror also looks a bit weird on this. They have statements from the police saying they’re looking, from his thug Minister dad saying he basically doesn’t know, and then photos of him in a high security area with his dad. I dunno. This Silva family is the biggest advertisement for everything wrong with the government. I fear the more discreet characters are just as bad.

As a bonus, check out this translated interview with Malaka, via Gossip Lanka. Here’s a gem – “Why do you require body guards before entering politics? “It is for my safety and in the event of an eventuality.”’

I’ve seen cartoons like this where the cops ask the criminals (wearing face masks) where the crooks are hiding to which the crooks point to opposite directions and off go the cops…yup Sri Lanka Police their motto should read as “Er duh…what?”

The explanation for his behaviour is very simple. Try it yourself…

1. Go to urbandictionary.com
2. Type “malaka” in the search bar
3. Look up definition #3

Come to think of it, he does have a bit of a Mediterranean look this Malaka

Bullshit!! You proved that 99% of Sri Lankans are idiots whose brains have become soft (as per your definition). This guy has been injuring people and doing what he wants for years and never gone to prison for that. So, who do you think is the idiot???? You are the idiot. Malaka Silva is a very brainy guy. He knows how to even break the teeth of a cops and get away with it. I bet you are one of the 150K who voted for him.

Contrary to what you idiots think, Mervyn Silva is a very brainy guy. For a guy who worked as a minor employee in the CWC to be a millionaire through politics requires brains. Sri Lankan morons very wrongly equate brains to degrees, which is quite wrong. You don’t have to have a degree and talk in ingliish to be “smart”. 99% of Sri Lankan so-called degree holders are spineless, gutless, bookworms. That is all. They are socially inept and can’t even hold a conversation let alone do anything constructive.

I am not saying that what these buggers are doing is right. But to call them idiots is just bullshitting yourself. They are not idiots. They have achieved what they want, power, money etc. and lead a luxury life, while you “brainy guys” with degrees still go in the bus. That actually makes you the idiots.

i agree u on one thing, ppl in SL are Idiots. but will never say Mervin is brainy. He is a pervert, drug smuggler, criminal who show no respect for women, law or anyother human being. At the same time he is a number one coward. COWARD. the only thing he did right is wagging his tail when ever his masters call him.

A man without any honour. A shameful creature. the reason he got all the money and luxuries is he acts according to his master and fulfill his duties (dirty ones). He abused CBK in raw filth but touched her feet and apologised to get advantages. He is the lowest a human being can ever become. Every thing he got is because of becoming the dog of the king and not because of his brain. he is cunning i accept that but not intelligent.

If i ever had a gun in my hand and prabhakaran and Mervin infront of me, i certainly pick mervin first.

Of course it’s only our timidness that makes that brat and his dad thrive. That’s why I’d decided not to whine about them anymore, though I sort of did, just now. Our ire should be directed at MR for harbouring and protecting so many criminals in his fold.

Monolithic Islam

Mohsin Hamid, author of How To Get Filthy Rich In Rising Asia, has a nice op-ed in the Guardian. Money quote for me was ‘Individuals are undeniably real. Groups, on the other hand, are assertions of opinion’. If you go buy news reports Muslims or Jews or Sri Lankans or any number of groups can appear monolithic and uniform. When you meet people, however, you find that they’re not. If you meet enough people you hopefully become aware of that tendency and judge people less by group identity in advance. Muslims, however, are quite publicly tarred with the same brush these days, and it really isn’t fair. Or accurate.

40 Under 40

I’m happy to be featured in Echelon magazine’s 40 Under 40 feature, profiling young people who contribute to the economy in some way, mainly in business but also in terms of innovation and thought leadership. It’s an interesting article not just in that I’m in it (mainly for work on indi.ca and Kottu but also YAMU) but also in that the magazine takes a bit of a critical stance. It’s worth reading the editorial (which I can only find in print) where they describe that only a few women are included and that all of the 40 are from middle to upper middle class backgrounds.

Chi Chi Hits The Scene, And A Referee

I won’t add too much commentary, but just read I guess. The youngest Rajapaksa, Rohitha (Chi Chi) has given an amazing interview to the Daily Mirror Life section, which is well worth a read. In other news, he also recently slapped a referee around in full public view at a rugby match. At least it seems that his elder brother restrained him.

Anti-Social Marketing (Nibras Bawa)

In 2009 this strange character appeared on the Sri Lankan Internet scene, getting angry, flaming, trolling whatever. Then he started naming anonymous bloggers, posting comments as people’s kids, nasty stuff, for which I removed him from Kottu. He also published some plagiarized stuff on Groundviews. He flamed out a bit more then disappeared. Until now. Now he’s back hosting a rather expensive social media event in Colombo, which is a bit ironic, seeing as he was known for being the most anti-social person the blogosphere had seen at the time.
