The Faluda Intruder
Faluda is THE Sri Lankan Muslim drink, so popular they even make it as an ice cream. I, however, have always been underwhelmed. Until now. The original Bombay Sweet House is in Colpetty, near Liberty Plaza. I’ve never been there, though I have frequented the other sweet houses in Wellawatte. So, I finally went, and it is good. The faluda is refreshing, exotic and not cloying at all. Just right, plus the hefty dollop of ice cream doesn’t hurt.
It’s fun to go in, order a faluda, ask the owner what sweets he recommends, and just sit around in Colpetty. Things are changing, but this seems like a place that never will. Except it will. So check it out while you can. There’s some supermall coming up across the street (by the Softlogic guy) and a Hyatt down the Galle Road. One only hopes the faluda will stay the same.
You can check out a fuller review of the Bombay Sweet House on YAMU.
Why the title I don’t exactly know. I always just wanted to have a boat and name it the Faluda Intruder. It would obviously be pink.

In 2009 this strange character appeared on the Sri Lankan Internet scene, getting angry, flaming, trolling whatever. Then he started naming anonymous bloggers, posting comments as people’s kids, nasty stuff, for which I removed him from

Bombay Sweet House is one of the icons of Colombo. It is on the main road,(Dharmapala MW) just past Anusha Handicrafts.
I was bowled over the first time I had a faluda as a child. Have not had one in a decade, at least, too health conscious :(
