The Best Playground In Colombo
On Ash Tip Road, of W.A. Silva Mawatha, vaguely Pamankada.
I cross-posted this in YAMU (geotagged), but I have to post it here. This is the strangest playground in Colombo. Not the best (that would probably be the Mount Lavinia playground, which overlooks the hotel and the sea), but this is certainly the oddest one. It’s a regular hood playground except for one thing. It has a TV.
The TV is usually showing cartoons, as far as I can tell. In this case there are two men sleeping in front of it. 80% of Sri Lankan households and 92% of Colombo households have a television, so it’s not like they lack for it, per se. That said, I still see a fair amount of people watching cricket in shop windows (myself included) and I guess they’re not showing cartoons all the time. But it’s not like this TV set has satellite TV or anything.
It’s just a TV, locked in a sorta box, in a public playground. The kids are playing on the swings and some adults are sleeping in front of the TV. It’s just a weird place and a weird photo is all.
