UPDATE: I found the full ceremony on YouTube, you can watch it here.
I’m not much for ceremonies, but the bits I saw of the London Olympic Opening were quite impressive. Beautiful music, thoughtful spectacle and humor. For reference, you can watch some of the ceremony and some of the games on YouTube – youtube.com/olympic. I was told that I missed a lot by watching only the Industrial Revolution part (above), namely the changing of the giant set, but I liked what I saw.
The Queen and James Bond sequence is pretty priceless as well, though she looks a bit baffled at the end. Good sport though. I couldn’t tell if that was her husband at the beginning or a valet, no disrespect intended. The Rowan Atkinson bit was also actually and not awkwardly funny. All in all a very confident and non-bombastic intro to the games. Forget Mitt Romney’s offensiveness, good on London.
There’s a more comprehensive review in the Times. Of New York.
