When I tried to get a transit visa to Hongkong on my way to Japan, even that time they asked for an invitation from Hong Kong..

Also the Chinese never give multiple entry visas. You need to go to the visa office every time even though you would have been there like 10 times in the last two years. This from a guy who keeps getting only single entry business visa to china.

It’s the same with US. If you are a backpacker who’s low on budget and want to go to US, forget it.

I can understand your frustration, but why would anyone make it easy for Sri Lankans to get a visa when we are known for abusing the system? Don’t you think many Sri Lankans would get to China and then “drop and run” like they have in places like Japan/Korea and Europe… Stories of Tamil refugees – bogus or otherwise aren’t doing us any favours.

Funny how the rules seem to vary between countries – I’m a Sri Lankan living in the UK and had little problem getting a visa at the Chinese Embassy in London.
