Art Is Long, Life Is Short #trishawwisdom

Trishaws can communicate great wisdom, though they often drive like asses. Trishaw drivers express a range of sentiments via stickers and arts, ranging from the power of mothers love to today’s insight “Art Is Long, Life Is Short”. Quite true.
I saw this in Mawanella town, right after another trishaw willfully and dickishly backed into me. The wise trishaw was standing still, coincidentally next to someone selling art.

So I got to thinking about it. Life is short, but art, at least good art, can live forever. Indeed, much of what we know about history or anything – ranging from cave paintings to the Ramayana – is conveyed and carried through art. So we bought some art. I got a giant sailboat.

My friend Graham got this piece, which we unfolded in the middle of the street as a sort of portal into the alternate and ageless world that art creates. Then a bus came and we had to move.
