Sinhala/Tamil Women Bloggers

I suppose I should put a question mark after that title. How many women are blogging in Sinhala or Tamil? The Women and Media Collective is holding a meeting on September 9th for the same. They’re also conducting research on the potential of women bloggers. There certainly is a lot of potential, and if you are a woman blogger, I hope you’ll attend.
Twitter and Facebook have kinda overtaken blogging in terms of immediate hotness. It’s easier to get on and easier to build an audience. However, social media works with blogs that stick at it, and – just like blogs depend on newspapers – social media depends on blogs for content. It’s like an ecosystem.
In my experience, girls that blog compellingly tend to get disproportionate attention, partly because the audience is so male. Also because some of the girl bloggers I’ve seen have been really quite good. Off the top of my head, however, I don’t know any that blog in Sinhala or Tamil, though I’m not exactly one who would know. Do you?

This is highly dubious. Miss Travel is a travel/social networking site that connects ‘Generous’ and ‘Attractive’ travelers. To, like, travel together, I guess. It all seems a bit like arranged prostitution and trafficking. This is part of a broader online trend to connect rich men to younger, attractive women. Sites like
Sri Lankan domestics never say anything, they just stop coming. My maid just stopped coming and when I finally pressed her she said I needed to get a washing machine. Well, there’s Deeps (http://deepsgelokaya.blogspot.com) and Aruni (http://arunishapiro.wordpress.com), from the top of my head. :)
Thank you for mentioning me Chavie. Got to know about this but busy with uni exams and stuff so did not go. Wish Indi would publish a post on the happenings of the day later.
Hmmm.. my tastes are medically biased so Dr J who blogs at “the other end” (http://anithkona.blogspot.com) and the little spider (http://makulupanchi.blogspot.com) come to mind first. Of course, Aruni as mentioned by Chavie, oh and little Dinithi and Malithi, two sisters aged about 7 years and 9 years who type out thier innocent thoughts in beautiful verse.
Aruni is popular. But the Sinala bloggers I miss are Taboo and Kolu. Taboo was actually a bi-lingual blogger. Whatever happened to him? I thought he was threatened, but they said he was just hacked. Why can”t he then get a new blog?
Wish Indi would publish a post on the happenings of the day later.
