Sarath Fonseka’s Last Rally

Campaigning has officially stopped. There is, in fact, a moratorium on candidate propaganda, though I suppose ones can continue to discuss. These are photos from Sarath Fonseka’s last rally. After coming from nowhere and no party, the General has put up a surprisingly strong run. After a bumpy start, he now stands a fair chance of winning, given fair polls. His platform is ostensibly one of a return to Constitutionalism and a caretaker Executive Presidency to fight corruption (as per today’s Sunday Times interview). He is also motivated by what seems to be a personal beef with the Rajapaksa’s. I support him with the full knowledge that he’s a flawed candidate. I think he’s the best available.

You can follow the election through photographs via Perambara’s Flickr and Twitter, FYI

It seems like too much is riding on SF’s shoulders. That is not healthy.

SF seems to be more things to more people than even Obama was a year ago.

And Obama is a decent human being with a mind of his own. Retired general with a vengence is not exactly in the same mould.

Governing is not the same as campaigning. Just look at the US.

Last week the Republicans gained more than they could ever dream of a year ago.

–Mass senate election virtually killed the healthcare bill
–Supreme Court decision to allows unlimited corporate funding in politics.

Obama has a lot of work to do. It is going to be ugly all around.

End result is that the average person in America has less power over his/her situation today than just a week ago.

Who can we blame? People or the politicians?

Most people don’t vote in their own interest. Sadly this is the same story in Sri Lanka.

Is it just me, or isn’t that picture of SF vaguely resembling the salute of the Nazis?

To Detrutus:
you fool don’t ever compare Nazis to Srath. You may not who they were. Just because he was a general don’t use those terms on him. Their were generals in the world who ruled with fairness. Please learn your history

There is an interesting article in today’s The Island about whether Fonseka is suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) after nearly getting assasinated by the LTTE. Makes for interesting reading, and does leave a question in one’s mind.

This time it’s gonna be definetly a hilarious defeat for Sarath Fonseka and all other traitors of this motherland thanks for the people who stand for their motherland and do their duty again.

Indi..you have become truly Sri Lankan. You change your preference from election to election thinking that he or she will bring a change. I don’t think we Sri Lankans can be fooled by politicians. We just fool ourselves.

I’m thinking that’s somewhat better than blindly voting for the same person over and over because he/she belongs to a certain party.

Mr Sarath Fonseka is the one who faced lot of challenges during the period of over throwing terrorism in Sri Lanka and no matter what we must not forget the fight he gave on behalf of all innocent Sri Lankans. We must salute him for being so loyal to our mother land furthermore another salute for him being a vegan.

I can say one thing by looking at the past memories, if Sarth Fonseka was not the chief commander in the Army, still the North is under the command of Piribakaran. You all cannot travel freely with your own families beyond Vauniya or Eastern cities. It is so unfortunate, most of Sri Lankan Sinhalese forget the History soon. Now most of the people eating beetle leaves try to spit on SF. they don’t understand that their mouths are already spoiled. Now, You all better spit by looking at the Sky.

The guy did a lot of service to the nation. In so many ways we can even call him great. The fact of the matter is that he has made caricature of himself as well as cause major diplomatic headaches for the country.

Moreover, he is threatening to potentially destroy Sri Lanka. I’m not certain whether he is entirely cognizant of the consequences of his actions, but nonetheless a trial at the Hague would be catastrophic for the Sri Lankan economy as well as exacerbate the Sinhala Tamil rift. It would also re-legitimize the LTTE as martyrs. This is not something that can easily be forgiven, especially considering it was all for some petty revenge
