Fonseka Press Conference (Videos)

Above is the intro and meaty part in Sinhala. Below is an interesting bit on him explaining his security situation (in English). These are uploading now and I will update them on this post in about an hour. Cause I am going to go outs. If you want to view them in the meantime they should be available at www.youtube.com/samarajiva. I think Mahinda is giving a Press Con now, but don’t think I could get into that.

This siege at the Cinnamon Lakeside is interesting cause you can just hang out there and then there’s occasionally this news happens. And then the hotel lobby is full of wedding chaps and they’re playing Guantanamera.

Sarath Fonseka On Why He’s Stuck In A Hotel

More coming, or at www.youtube.com/samarajiva. I’m going to go out for a minute, will do some analysis later tonight. I don’t think the case is especially hopeful, or prudent, but it is brave.

Sarath Fonseka On His Voters

Saying he’s sorry that the voters aspirations have not been met in what he calls a rigged election.

Sarath Fonseka On Leaving The Country

He doesn’t rule it out. And on whether he would be assassinated.

Sarath Fonseka Vs. Ranil (Sinhala)

Question about how Ranil Wickremesinghe (sititng next to him) had said that it was a free and fair poll. Fonseka said he disagrees. Goes on to describe what he considers the start of an assassination.

“I don’t think the case is especially hopeful, or prudent, but it is brave.”

FUD alert.

Undermining the democratic process (because you don’t like the verdict) is not bravery.

It is not even politically smart.

Just saw Rauf Hakeems statment on MTV (Ranil was with him). They talked bout the problems in election campaign. But said that the election day itself did not have any notable issues such as vote rigging. Just checkout news 1st.

How in the world does CNN get its news from Sri Lanka? Even Indi can do a better job than this.

Current main story on their front page.

Troops surround defeated Sri Lanka opposition leader
http://edition.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/asiapcf/01/27/srilanka.election/index.html

Colombo, Sri Lanka (CNN) — Soldiers surrounded the Colombo hotel where Sri Lanka’s opposition leader was staying Wednesday, hours after President Mahinda Rajapaksa was declared the winner of the country’s first peacetime election in more than two decades.

Rajapaksa’s opponent, Gen. Sarath Fonseka, said he did not accept the results of the election and is contesting the result.

There was “obvious rigging,” Fonseka said from his hotel.

Official results broadcast on television Wednesday gave Rajapaksa a clear victory over his rival. Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake said the incumbent garnered 57.88 percent of the votes, with Fonseka receiving 40.15 percent.

Fonsy is just a sore looser. Where is the razor sharp margin ? This is how democracy works.
Just a lot of dissapointment for UNP. Honestly we will continute to be disspointed till Ranil decides that
either Sajith or Naveen should get the nomination.

Further Ranil thinks it is “Free and fair” poll and also paffarel says that no major incidents were reported.
ranil is the leader of the opposition and people just did not trust and TNA alliance.

Ranil must very well be the second most happy man in Sri Lanka right now. No exaggeration.

[...] JVP and Fonseka were much closer. In terms of body language, I saw the lot at a press conference while Fonseka was under siege in the Cinnamon Lakeside. He was much more jocular with Somawansa and [...]
