New Blog, For Your Prurient Interest

This chap Lefroy has been commenting here. I didn’t sort him out from the usual, but he’s started his own blog which is pretty funny. So far the posts include pissing on his cousins clothes, sex chats overhead in internet cafes, Sri Lanka’s lack of sex education and the gold and silver rules of dealing with women. I daresay as I get old I’m getting older and more conservative with what I say, but this guy might be picking up the slack.

Hey indi. Don’t make me look like a sex maniac with an obsession in pissing or shitting. I’ve stated that I’m a Sri Lankan Liberal Democrat (except on the matter of tamils’ self determination bullshit). There have been other ‘asexual’ posts. As a liberal, I hate sexual repression. That’s all. (I’m the guy who few years ago, came out of that wood near Mahamaya..with a girl). As I’m also Sri Lankan, I’d be using Sri Lankan english too…By the way I don’t edit and polish what I write. So there’d be lot of spellings and grammar mistakes. Thanks for publicising my blog.

The Military State Of Mind:
  • jcnars: @rubbish, you hit the coin. Indi seems to have sold his soul of late. Sucking up to the govt. like a pro. @girigor, talking loud doesn't always means talking sense. We are in a period between wars, if: a) nuts like you don't STFU and b) china is allowed a naval base in SL....
  • Girigoris the One: Tamils are being mistreated, Sinhalese should understand blah blah blah Yoy say "But for the sinhalese people, they find it good that the armed forces are around because almost all of them are sinhalese and past experience shows they will favour their own people, sadly." Tell me when the LTTE was around, did they even allow normal Sinhalese peeps to walk in to their area freely? Where were you then? Did you complain to the LTTE why...
  • myil selvan: dear indi, You as a Canadian sinhalese may find it hard to comprehend the nature of militarization. But for the sinhalese people, they find it good that the armed forces are around because almost all of them are sinhalese and past experience shows they will favour their own people, sadly. But for the Tamil people, they see it as an occupying force not interested in their welfare but only in holding real-estate. The coming days, months are...

  • Jack Point: Rather appropriate that the cell is in the Ceylinco premises. Perhaps their former chairman should occupy that rather than the cell in Welikada?...
  • Shammi: Thanks for spying out these little gems. I think there were two wives with him at the time of his capture and incarceration. Have you seen the bit of the old fortifications of Colombo left within the premises of the Commercial Bank building in Fort? Beware of the suspicious security guard there!...
Did Little Children Create God?:
  • Shammi: It's funny the way most of the stories and rituals in the bible have so much in common with legends of more ancient pagan civilizations. Bits of the tales of Gilgamesh, Dionysus et al are mirrored in the descriptioons of Noah, Moses, Jesus, the Holy Trinity and the holy family etc., even a trace of Solomon reflected in Mahoshada of the jataka tales. They could've been a little more creative at least. I think I'm...
  • Whacko: the question is why we stop asking these questions when we are adults...
  • Kids Say: No, little children didn't create god - insecure and ignorant people did. Believing in and worshipping a magical invisible creature in the sky gives a lot of people comfort and security. That said, little children can be wonderfully creative. Have you seen the show "Kids Say the Darndest Things"? (You can watch clips of the show on youtube). This sounds like something from that show: Christianity is the belief that a cosmic Jewish zombie who...

Othello:
  • Electra: Actually race has little to do with what Othello is actually about. Of course it does make an appearance here and there, but it's possible that the race theme has been slightly over-analysed (as is most of Shakespeare's work) by later interpreters. However - it deals with the equally potent themes of jealousy, obsession, paranoia, the idea of masculinity. To me those are the things that makes Othello a truly remarkable account of what is...

Rajiva Wijesinha’s Blog

I just discovered that Rajiva Wijesinha (National List MP, potential Foreign Minister) has a blog. Which he updates, like, daily. Which makes him a better blogger than me. The posts are a bit long but interesting. He hammers the Sunday Leader pretty good, has a say about Rudyard Kipling, etc. It's all a bit over my head and long and I must say I don't entirely trust the man, but it is an interesting and

LTTE’s New Website

Most LTTE sites went underground, along with their leader. Now KP (the nominal leader of the LTTE) has a new site at ltteir.org. This I discovered via the Going Global blog. It is a bit sad, actually. It's a Wordpress blog and they haven't even turned the permalinks on, so the latest post reads as http://ltteir.org/?p=119 rather than, nevermind. The site is also registered via a proxy (third party), though I hope Interpol would use

Rotary Blog Featured on rotary.org

Today Rotary International ran a story on their frontpage about the blog Colombo Regency setup. I am really proud of that blog because they are helping people and documenting it really well. When the Rotary Club of Colombo Regency, Sri Lanka, invited a man [Me] to speak about weblogs at a lunch-time meeting in November, members had no idea that only a month later they would use their new knowledge to create such a Web

A Blog/Print Business Model

I've thought about this before, but the logistics seem daunting. You can print and distribute blog posts as a newspaper. Print is dying in the West, but it is still pretty powerful in the developing world. Internet is still non-competitive in the Third World because not enough people have access. Print media can still travel to more poor, rural people and reach more eyeballs. This article discusses an interesting bridge between the two - republishing

Sri Lankan Orphanages (Suwasetha)

"My name is Anita Kumudini Roellin. I was born in Panadura - south of Sri Lanka. When I was two months old my mother had given me for adoption to Sarvodaya Suwasetha. I was fortunate to find loving and caring foster parents from Switzerland few months after. I grew up in the DavosGR Mountains with my brother Philipp Ranjan who is also an adopted child from Sri Lanka. After 23 years I came last March
