LTTE’s New Website

Most LTTE sites went underground, along with their leader. Now KP (the nominal leader of the LTTE) has a new site at ltteir.org. This I discovered via the Going Global blog. It is a bit sad, actually. It’s a WordPress blog and they haven’t even turned the permalinks on, so the latest post reads as http://ltteir.org/?p=119 rather than, nevermind. The site is also registered via a proxy (third party), though I hope Interpol would use the posted Law Enforcement contacts to request the information. KP is still wanted for arms smuggling, criminal conspiracy and involvement in the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi. And now he has a blog.

But moving on to the content, he spends a lot of time establishing his bona fides via photos of him and Prabhakaran together, although from decades ago. What he mentions but then kinda glosses over is that he was a bit out of favor from 2002 to January of this year. Only then was he given more powers, largely cause everyone else was dead.

Per his issues, I think KP talks like a moderate though his trade remains the weapons of terrorism, among other things, like drugs and contraband. Despite calling for a political solution he still refuses to participate in elections within a united Sri Lanka, so I don’t really see the point. He also can’t seem to get a column on TamilNet, hence the blog, so I don’t think his power is especially consolidated anywhere. Interesting reading though.

I don’t think KP is even supported by TamilNet: I quote

LTTE watchers said that the new formation has the burden to prove its credibility with the grass root at home and among the diaspora that aspire not incumbencies but a strong mass organisation to address the national cause.

TamilNet, while re-iterating its stand as an independent media, committed to the cause of Eezham Tamil nationalism, requests readers not to take cues from it on the organisational matters of the present. Political steering of the Eezham Tamil cause is entirely a prerogative of the masses concerned, who have hitherto shown solidarity with a movement that did not surrender either the aim or the struggle.

If you’re left to choose between the KP faction and the other side, KP would seem preferable for his advocacy for non-violence and political participation over armed struggle.
