Sri Lanka: North, South, West

I basically saw everything this week. On Saturday I was in Padaviya, the transit hospital for warzone casualties (after Palmbudai). On Sunday I went inland thru Ratnapura to Hambantota. On Monday I was in a Hambantota jail. After a flurry of phone calls and very kind treatment and congenial chats with the police I was out. Then on Tuesday I went to Tangalle – 14km from Mahinda’s hometown – to watch his speech. Then I drove back along the southern coast, stopping in Galle and eating and drinking from all the flag waving people along the road. Things are changing, north to south.
Basically, it’s a long story. I’m uploading some video. I’ll fill this in. I’d recommend twitter.com/indica to start. I was able to update from IDP camps to the road to jail.

This is highly dubious. Miss Travel is a travel/social networking site that connects ‘Generous’ and ‘Attractive’ travelers. To, like, travel together, I guess. It all seems a bit like arranged prostitution and trafficking. This is part of a broader online trend to connect rich men to younger, attractive women. Sites like
Sri Lankan domestics never say anything, they just stop coming. My maid just stopped coming and when I finally pressed her she said I needed to get a washing machine. I was hoping to ride this one out, but I’ve run out of underwear and I have no choice. I finally caved and bought a washing machine, from
