Whose them?

Leave aside the notion that its attitudes like this that will prevent this country from ever attaining peace. What about the tamil speaking population that is not represented by the LTTE? The Estate Workers for example, they get the shittiest deals... They are poor, they are victimized for speaking and looking like Tamils, and they are marginalized out of the discourse. How about them?

Actually I don't have a house to rent anybody so your question is off the mark.

Leaving me aside, the example you brought forward is ridiculous and you brought it up only to avoid having to face the music for your slip of tongue in which you implied that tamils are not lankan.
Any landlord who asks someone to register with the police would do so only for his own protection should something go wrong and that in itself doesn't mean he doesn't consider his tenant to be non sri lankan.
Various people have various criteria for determining who they will accept as tenants. Some will take only married couples, some will take only those who have respectable jobs etc. Doesn't mean that they consider unmarried people or those who don't have respectable jobs in big companies as being non sri lankan.
In fact, some land lords prefer foriegners as tenants !

So your example of whether somebody might hesitate to rent to a tamil person from jaffna is no way related to whether or not tamils are sri lankan.

You are utterly SHAMELESS.

Having uttered the indifensible, you now defend yourself by trying to muddle the issue and talking about tenants and landlords.

Tamil lankans are as Sri Lankan as anyone else and those like you who think otherwise are as Elamists as Prabhakaran the Terrorist.

Janapathi/Final Blast, since you are obviously intent on making lame excuses for yourself instead of facing reality, I'll just declare you to be an idiot and not waste any time arguing with you any further.

i do love sri lanka, but i think that part of that comes with knowing that i can leave when i want to. plus, the foreign passport certainly helped a lot at checkpoints. i've never been a big fan of patriotism for the sake of patriotism (i am proud of certain things about NZ such as being staunchly nuclear-free & standing up to america about it, having an independant political conscience, & being a leader in the world's anti-whaling campaign). i can't actually think of anything that makes me feel particularly patriotic about sri lanka (apart from maybe that the people in general are a very friendly, generous, and helpful bunch, but that's not really specific to sri lanka). i may be a terrible sri lankan, but at least i'm honest.

about the original post, indi, i can understand where you're coming from. the day i found out that a lot of my tamil co-workers never left their home/office because they didn't feel safe in colombo, was the first time i started crying in a public place in sri lanka. i can't even imagine what it would feel like being treated like an outsider, a 2nd class citizen, or a criminal, in my country, nor what it would feel like to be 'stuck' in sri lanka - to have my only options be being treated with suspicion in the south, stuck between the armed forces, paramilitary and the ltte in the east/north, or to live under dictatorial control under the ltte.

it also made me really appreciate everything my parents did to provide me with social and economic security, and a foreign passport.

i'm curious Janapathi, since you see as all tamils as apotential threat, would you prefer if they left colombo?
if so how would you propose to get rid of them? through (violent) force? or through marginalising them in society and starving their economic welfare via boycotts (of their restaurants, taxis etc)?
where would they go? kilinochchi? tamil nadu?
do you think these actions would make sri lanka in general a safer place?

if not, what would you propose to do about the tamil 'problem' in the south?

What Janapathi has said above looks very racist, extremist when you separate it from the whole context.
It's like eating sugar separate compared to diluting sugar with water. We mix the same quantity, but does it taste the same?

Ok.. forget about what janapathi said..

In the 'perfect world' that most of the bloggers here live and dream of, what you are saying is correct. I do not think anyone is stupid not to understand that tamils live in Sri Lanka and we all have same roots. If you read Janapathi's blog itself you will see in one post explaining the similarities between Sinhalese and Tamils and how they all related to each other.

Now this is my question for you. I expect an honest answer.
Will you rent your house or your car to a Sri Lankan born tamil who came to colombo from North of Sri Lanka?

If you still say Yes, then tell us, whether you are going to ask him to take a police report of some additional document that you would not ask if that person was a Sinhalese.

If you answer this question honestly you will understand the problem.

If you do treat them differently (Which we obviously do but do not want to accept it), that means you treated them differently. Which means, whether you like to accept it or not, in your definition you will becomes an Elamist.

The problems Sri Lankan tamils facing today is, people like you, do not want to honestly understand the Problems they face. We always like to see.. oh! they all are Sri Lankan Tamils and we all are same. Until the day people like you do not put some effort to understand the problem, and simply label people who talk the problem as extremist, we will have a war.

We will also have enough bombs, people dying in Sri Lanka. Reason is, according to your definition, no one should suspect anyone as a Terrorist if we all are Sri Lankans. So if the guy next door is a tamil and u see something unusual is going on, you will keep your mouth shut. Why, because the tamils living next door is one of us? Now my friend, that is why innocent people died in Sri Lanka.
Each bomb, will create, have created more anti-tamil sentiments in our own backyards. No one can stop it.

It's not extremists like Janapathi, JHU, JVP who put fuel to this war, it is people who call them moderate and stay in between the lines comfortably are the culprits.

Now I am sure, a troller here will say.. go and fuck off..

My point is very simple.
It's wrong to regard Tamils as being non Sri Lankan. You clearly implied this when you said that you would rather go in search of a a "sri lankan" taxi than travel in a "tamil" taxi.
Anybody who thinks that tamil people are not Sri Lankan is an Elamist!

I think like Janapathi said, most tamils like to have a 'Home Land'. To get to the home, LTTE has taken them to the gate. Anyway, this is a strange world and we do not know who is who.

I can't name any who fit that criteria because you want people who are alive. I only know people who are dead that have spoken against the LTTE. I've posted a long list of them above. Maybe it is a possibility - all though this could be a stretch of your imagination - that the people who ARE alive don't want to join the list of the dead. Do you think that this could be a factor, or do you think that all Tamils love suicide as much as the Black Tigers?

Having said that, however, I think a lot more Tamils should speak out against the LTTE. Even online where there is no danger of violence, we don't see enough of it. The LTTE use Tamil children as cannon fodder, after all. Their own community should be as quick to condemn this practice as the alleged attacks against civilians by the military.

To Sophist,

You keep on asking me a question that I keep on avoiding. I felt sorry for you and thought to find an answer.

WARNING:
Do NOT Use Any Product To Cure Your Premature Ejaculation Until You Read This Important Message!

Some people like you had wasted hundreds or even thousands of dollars on useless crappy premature ejaculation methods.
I felt obligated to put a stop on this!

You don't have to humiliate your self with dangerous desensitize creams, useless medicine, endless scam methods or to keep on mumble with the word 'fuck off' day and night anymore...

To make passionate love for as long as you desire is way easier than you think.
YOU can do it no matter how bad you may be.

But it has to be done right or your lasting problem may rapidly grow WORSE instead of better.

Hope you feel better now..
Janapathi.

Thanks for that Janapathi. Very enlightening. Seriously. But I don't withdraw my advice to you to go fuck yourself.

Ashanthi. Seperate us to facilitate the healing process?? Can you heal a wound when you keep the lacerated edges apart?

Mona jathiye modayoda machan mei ratey inne?

The TNA protest in parliament is a classic minority reaction. Why couldn't they possibly have observed the minute's silence and then asked for another minute's silence for those killed in the airstrikes. I mean - WTF?

Like I said before, this is my personal view.

How do you know what was inside the taxi and who that guy is? What made him to be so scared?
Remember the Galadari, Central bank bombs? nicely fitted inside lorries. All of them were registered in Sri Lanka and owned by Sri Lankans.
I can not give a true answer to your question without taking a so called extremist point of view. Try to answer it by yourself.
Why would you risk yourself? Me.. nah.. I will walk..

"I would rather walk or jammed in to one of our buses or hop around to find a Sri Lankan taxi. "

Your choice of words is a dead giveaway. So you think taxis that belo ng to tamils are not "sri lankan" ?

Hi all,

Unfortunately no one managed to list down 10 LIVING tamil leaders in SOUTH with us who oppose LTTE openly.
Instead, some of them showed the lack of facts by typing the 4 letter word to cover themselves in a shameful manner.

I already listed the incident that took place in our parliament yesterday. Now please allow me to express more facts to defend my stand on this. From here onwards, if any comments without facts or a logical argument will be ignored.

Let me start..

TNA is not LTTE.
LTTE is ALL TAMIL
TNA is ALL TAMIL
LTTE is a terrorist group
TNA support LTTE

Any tamil person is free to support TNA

Now can you say TNA is not terrorists? If TNA is part of a terrorist group, then what about the TNA members?

------------------------------------------------------

TRO is not LTTE.
TRO is a registered NGO
LTTE is ALL TAMIL
TRO is ALL TAMIL
LTTE is a terrorist group
TRO fund LTTE
Any tamil person can fund TRO.

Now can you say TRO is not terrorists? If TRO is part of a terrorist network then what about the people who sent funds to them?

I will try my best to answer logical constructive comments to this. Agree or disagree, Extream or not, first we should learn to respent the views of others. Then we can call us Moderate. I expressed my opinion only.

Thanks

Hi Ashanthi,

If you want more to prove your point.. then read this.. just happened yesterday..

Now help me to differentiate Tamils From Terrorists like the way you all separate yourselves as Moderate bloggers Vs extreme Blogger Janapathi.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Source: Colombo Page
June 20, Colombo: Parliamentary sessions were adjourned this morning as a heated argument broke out between JVP and TNA parliamentarians over the one minute of silence to express condolences to the families of the Kebithigollewa victims.

JVP parliamentary group leader Wimal Weerawansa made a special statement in Parliament in condemnation of the massacre in Kebithigollewa and requested MPs to observe a one-minute silence. All MPs agreed and observed the silence, but TNA MPs Eelavendran and Gajendran claimed that it was unfair to observe a one-minute silence only for Sinhalese victims.

All the TNA MPs then entered the lobby and started to protest, causing the government and JVP MPs to also enter the lobby. A heated argument went on for nearly thirty minutes.

Speaker W.J.M. Lokubandara subsequently decided to postpone sessions for 15 minutes.

Hi Ravana,

Good morning. Very good attempt. Not enough.

May be you have not read my question.
So let me copy it here..
---------------------------------------------------
If you can name atleast 10 moderate tamil leaders other than the 2 groups I’ve mentioned above, who oppose LTTE and living with us in South, I totally accept my stupidity in replying to this post.
---------------------------------------------------

May be you can also explain us,
why people like Teena missed out a post about the kabithigollewa killings? What do you think of the below situation yesterday. TNA do represent tamils, don't they?

Agreed with Ravana - that was a very interesting read. Agreed with C_A the war has began and it is going to tear us apart. So in some ways it gives me some hope to read all the counter arguments to Janapathi. A classic xenophobe - they are definitely out there.

Keeping the country united is fine but I do think we need an international peace-keeping force to come in and separate us for a good 5 years to help start a healing process. It seems any chance of peace now has dissipated, but one can only hope and dream.

In Colombo, poorer Tamils are definitely fearing the worst. I know that the general assumption is that the ltte are behind evey murder committed in the country but I still have to say why would they be ordering a bus bombing from the transit lounges of Oslo. It does not make sense. The timing was wrong & the target not strategic enough. We have to remember there are many sinister parties involved - it is the nature of war.

I think another thing to do would be to try and offer the poorer Tamils in the south some sort of shelter, refuge for when communal violence begins. You guys need to set something up & do it soon. These Tamils will get no justice from the Police. Throughout time it's the Sinhalese in the south that have helped these Tamils - be prepared and formulate a plan to stop the comming violence. The well to do Tamils, know how to look after themselves and they can just hop on a plane and leave if things get out of hand.

Would be good to get rid of the Sam spoofs - that was quite obviously done.
