A Future That Doesn’t Suck

This is a mailing I got from the UNP. There’s also a really good economic analysis on Mahoshada that’s well worth checking out. I have the flu and being feverish does not improve my workflow. Here’s some of the text of the mailing. I’m partisan cause you’d have to be batshit insane to vote in an incompetent tsunami-hora backed by the national socialist JVP. ‘Imagine a truly united Sri Lanka… A Sri Lanka where we can travel freely, from coast to coast, a Sri Lanka where law and order prevails, a Sri Lanka where the dividends of peace flow to all citizens, a Sri Lanka where tsunami aid reaches all those in need…’

Ranil: A man of action with a clear vision. The country needs him back at the helm!

Imagine a truly united Sri Lanka…

A Sri Lanka where we can travel freely, from coast to coast, a Sri Lanka where law and order prevails, a Sri Lanka where the dividends of peace flow to all citizens, a Sri Lanka where tsunami aid reaches all those in need. This is the Sri Lanka that Ranil offers us. Ranil has a clear vision for a prosperous and united Sri Lanka. He is a man of action that can deliver on his promises. His track record is there for all to see – in two short years, he accomplished so much for the country. We need him back for another twelve!

Mahinda, however, has no experience and borrowed vision. He has no imagination and no achievements, so he has allied himself with extremists to win at any cost. He will not be able to step forward shackled to the JVP. Instead, he will simply follow as they lead us towards failed states like Burma and North Korea. He has no vision of his own, so he lets the extremists run wild, barking and baying for blood. They spread racial and religious division because they have no answers to the real issues – the cost of living and peace. They divide because they cannot unite Sri Lanka in prosperity and peace.

For all the Rata Perata talk of being pro-poor, in action SLFP/JVP governments consistently impoverish Sri Lanka. Ranil Wickremesinghe and the UNP, however, have ushered in the greatest growth in Sri Lankan history. Ranil’s future policies promise responsible leadership of the economy producing tangible benefits for all Sri Lankans – the poor, the rich and the often-burdened middle class.

To view a Flash presentation showing Sri Lanka’s economic history, click here. Included is an in-depth analysis, showing how the cost of living skyrockets and growth falters when Red is involved – whether in government or trying to overthrow it.

This Manifesto and more are available at the official UNP website, www.unpsrilanka.org. This website is also unique in that in invites your comments on the latest news items of the day, and offers updated photos from the campaign trail. People of all opinions are invited to join in the democratic debate on the site.

Join us in building a prosperous and peaceful Sri Lanka, with Ranil Wickremesinghe as President in 2005. The United National Party.

Sarath Fonseka And Minority Politics (2)

indi: I don’t consider him a racist, but he certainly wouldn’t have been seen as a minority champion, until he became a candidate

St. Fallen: Why are we accepting that he’s racist based on that statement? Fonseka is not a politician. What set him apart was the fact that he spoke uninhibited, which landed him in jail. I think he was brave to make a statement that he...

Jilebi: Isn’t SF a US Permanant Resident?

Sarath Fonseka And Minority Politics

I started off not really liking General Sarath Fonseka, him being part of the aggressive war effort. I didn’t support the war (largely cause I thought it would fail), and I thought Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Fonseka were gleefully stomping everything. Fonseka even came out and said “I strongly believe that this country belongs to the Sinhalese but there are minority communities and we treat them like our people,” in 2008 (National Post). Then when he ran for President in 2010, he won mainly in minority areas. Which shows you how things can change.

General Sarath Fonseka Out Soon?

General Sarath Fonseka was arrested on a bunch of trumped up charges, but mainly for daring to threaten Mahinda in a Presidential election. Despite his poor health, Fonseka was arrested in February 2010 and sentence to three years. Word on the street now, however, is that he’ll be released soon. Like any day now. President Mahinda Rajapaksa has told the Hindu so, so it looks like the General will be out soon. Without his title, a proper house or much shot at power, but out still.

The iPlayboy App. For The Articles

I’ve been testing a lot of apps. A very interesting one is iPlayboy, from Playboy magazine. It’s bad porn but a good magazine, especially since you can read issues from its cultural heyday – the Mad Men era of the 60s.

Reading Comics Again (Marvel Comics App)

I’m going to get back to blogging. I buy a shitload of stuff on my iPad. Not that I like spending money, and the exchange rate terrifies me, but it’s just so easy, and so good. For example, I’ve been reading comics again. Spiderman, and Carnage. Except this time Spiderman is friends with Iron Man, and Carnage has boobs. Amazing. I’ve realized, however, that Marvel never ends stories. They are all cliff-hangers. Sequels are the business model. They’re such assholes money machines.
